Today, we honor the heroes who protect our communities every day, our nation’s first responders.

Through the Cribs for Kids National Public Safety Initiative, we’re proud to partner with law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical professionals who go beyond the call of duty to protect the youngest members of their communities. By providing safe sleep education and life-saving cribs to families in need, first responders across the country are helping to reduce sleep-related infant deaths, one home visit, one conversation, one crib at a time.

Thank you to every first responder who carries this message forward. Your compassion and commitment make a lasting difference.

Halloween should be scary for the right reasons: haunted houses, spooky movie nights, and cool costumes. Keep a day full of sweet treats from going sour. It’s important to stay alert and be safe both as a driver and pedestrian this Halloween. Check out these tips:

For Drivers:
🛣️ Be especially alert and take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.

🏘️ Slow down in residential neighborhoods. Remember that popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

📵 Reduce any distractions inside your car, such as talking on the phone or eating, so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings.

For Pedestrians:

🔦 Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers. Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.

📵 Put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street.

🚗 Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars and be especially careful around driveways and alleys.

🚸 Join kids under age 12 for trick-or-treating. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, tell them to stick to familiar areas that are well lit, stay on sidewalks if available, and trick-or-treat in groups.

recently drew attention to the rise of unsafe imagery and misinformation about infant sleep across social media. When well-meaning parents scroll for advice, what they see matters. Images of babies sleeping with blankets, pillows, or in loungers send the wrong message and can have tragic consequences.

It’s a critical reminder that every photo, post, and conversation shapes how families think about safety. That's why we are collaborating with key partners to ensure all families have access to safe and accurate imagery and information on safe sleep. Safe Kids Worldwide strives to be a trusted resource for parents, caregivers, and professionals working to keep kids safe.
