🍁 Fall Infections Series: Pneumonia 🍁

🌍 World Pneumonia Day 🌍

Today we recognize World Pneumonia Day and bring awareness to this serious lung infection that affects millions every year. Pneumonia can range from mild to life-threatening and is most dangerous for young children, adults over 65, and people with weakened immune systems. Let’s work together to spread awareness and promote healthy lungs! Pneumonia can be caused by bacteria, viruses (especially during cold/flu season), or even fungi. Symptoms may include cough, fever or chills, fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath, or nausea.

✅ Prevention Tips:
• Stay up-to-date on vaccines
• Practice good hand hygiene
• Don’t smoke
• Keep your immune system strong with rest, healthy food, and exercise

If symptoms become severe or don’t improve, seek medical care. Stay healthy this season! 🍂💙

🍂 Fall Infection Series: The Common Cold 🤧

Cold season is here! The common cold (also known as an acute respiratory viral infection) is usually caused by viruses like rhinovirus and spreads easily through coughing, sneezing, touching shared items, or touching your face after contact.

Common Symptoms:
• Runny/stuffy nose
• Sore or scratchy throat
• Cough & sneezing
• Mild fever, headache, or body aches

There is no cure for the common cold — treatment focuses on symptom relief. Antibiotics don’t work on colds since they are viral.

What helps:
• Rest and drink plenty of fluids
• OTC meds (Tylenol®, Advil®, decongestants, etc.)
• Wash hands frequently and avoid touching your face

Most colds last 7–10 days. Contact a healthcare provider if symptoms worsen, last more than 10 days, or if you have a high fever or difficulty breathing.

Stay healthy and take care this fall! 🍁💛

🧠 It’s World Stroke Day!
At Active Home Care, we stand with stroke survivors and their families — providing compassionate, personalized care to support recovery and independence at home. 💙
Remember F.A.S.T. when spotting a stroke:
F – Face drooping
A – Arm weakness
S – Speech difficulty
T – Time to call 911
Every second counts — early action saves lives. 💪

October 29th is World Stroke Day. On this day, people from around the world work to raise awareness of stroke symptoms and to emphasize the critical importance of calling 911 immediately when these symptoms are recognized. Every day, people are affected by this life-changing condition, and that can leave them unable to see, speak, or swallow. The fatigue and emotional impact that a stroke can have on a person can be their biggest barriers to recovery. However, with the right support, everyone can get the help that they need. Today serves to highlight those support systems while also educating the people on how to detect early warning signs in the event of an emergency.

Strokes can happen to anyone. Globally, about one in four adults over the age of 25 will have a stroke in their lifetime. Stroke is largely treatable if you call 911 as soon as you recognize the symptoms. Many adults in the U.S. don’t recognize the warning signs of a stroke, such as arm weakness, face drooping, or speech difficulty. If we educate ourselves this month, we can be more effective at recognizing these signs and doing what we can to help people. For more information on strokes, please visit the link below.
