Cold + flu season is doing its worst right now in New England.

I had 6 cancellations this week due to respiratory illnesses, and one especially unlucky soul was taken out by norovirus. This is very much the season where bodies are waving little white flags asking for rest.

Between holiday gatherings, travel, and all the time spent in tubes in the sky and on the ground, our germs definitely got to mingle. Turns out they are very social!

From an East Asian medicine perspective, this is the time to simplify and support:

• Prioritize warmth. Neck, chest, and feet especially

• Choose warm, cooked foods like soups, stews, and congee

• Rest is not optional. Fatigue weakens the body’s defenses

• Gentle daily support like acupressure and warm beverages

• Listen early. That scratchy throat or chill matters

If your body is whispering, listen before it has to shout.

Be gentle with yourself this season 🤍

The icy pond behind my house has been my teacher this week.
Its stillness holds a quiet strength that mirrors the energy of Winter. In East Asian medicine, this season belongs to the Kidney system, our deepest reservoir of vitality. Like that frozen surface, we are meant to slow down, conserve warmth, and honor what’s happening beneath our own surface.

In stillness, restoration happens.
In cold, the body asks for gentleness.

If you’ve been feeling more tired, reflective, or craving warmth, you’re not doing anything wrong. You’re simply listening to seasonal wisdom.
Support your Kidney energy with rest, warm foods, and practices that nourish your core. I’ve been trying to do the same.

Sending warmth from my home and clinic here in Lexington, MA, honoring the season one quiet moment at a time ❄️🪷

This morning I made my way to , one of my favorite fellow Lexington businesses, to snag a holiday wreath for the office door.

As I wandered through their beautiful selection, I ran into the lovely woman who makes the wreaths. She was quietly inspecting each one, making the tiniest adjustments with so much intention. You could *feel* the love and care she pours into every piece.

This year’s wreath has a little sprig of cinnamon tucked inside which is one of my favorite herbs in East Asian Medicine. 🍂 It’s such a sweet reminder of warmth, circulation, and seasonal nourishment… and now it greets everyone who walks through my door.

Here’s to handcrafted beauty, community connections, and the small things that make this season feel extra special. ❤️🎄

Today, I ran into one of my favorite YouTube couples at one of my usual haunts. I’ve been following their journey. I appreciate their humor and love for one another. I also appreciate their candor. I recently saw this post from them and thought I would share.

This beauty had only two leaves when I brought her home from my local Buy Nothing group. She was infested with scale (though I didn’t know it at first), struggling in silence but still holding on.
After some serious pest remediation, a new pot, fresh soil, patience, and a whole lot of love… she’s finally thriving.
It’s wild how plants mirror us. Healing isn’t instant. Growth takes time. With the right conditions and a little care, we can all come back stronger.
