Today marks my official TEN YEARS as a Birth & Postpartum Doula, and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist. It’s insane to me that I’ve already dedicated an entire decade to this incredible work.

I still get butterflies when I’m on the way to a birth. I still cry with my clients when they hold their babies for the first time. I’m in tears writing this post just thinking about what an incredible honor it is to be invited into such a sacred and vulnerable space. Thank you to every single family that has trusted me to walk with them during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. I do not take that honor lightly.

Thank you fiercely to everyone who has stood by my side, cheered me on as I grew my business, offered a listening ear when I needed to decompress after a difficult birth, and had faith in me when doulas weren’t popular yet. This work has absolutely changed the course of my life for the better. 🥹❤️

I wrote this curriculum myself and am so proud of all the valuable evidence-based information it contains. As a Labor & Delivery nurse with 10 years of doula experience, I’m able to pull knowledge and resources from many different angles to create a well rounded course. I am so BEYOND excited to announce the relaunch of my doula training business, The Doula College! If you’ve known me for any length of time, you know that doula work is a huge passion of mine and I LOVE offering guidance and mentorship to new and aspiring doula’s.

When I trained as a doula 10 years ago, there weren’t a ton of resources available to get my business off the ground, especially locally. I believe everyone deserves support and a safe space to ask questions when trying to navigate the birth worker world.

The Doula College is an advocacy and research based doula training organization. I take pride in cultivating a non-judgmental and welcoming space to learn about all things birth related! Did you know that LGBTQ+ individuals statistically experience higher incidents of obstetrical violence and adverse perinatal outcomes than the average American?

There is a huge deficit in Obstetrical Healthcare for this community. Discrimination, ignorance, and judgment contribute to these outcomes.

LGBTQ+ individuals face many barriers in our healthcare system. As doulas, we advocate for inclusion, respect, and education as we fight for improved outcomes and satisfactory birth experiences.

Pride Month is a time for self-reflection, and sending extra love to the LGBTQ+ people in your community. 🏳️‍🌈

Got to do one of my FAVE things today and encapsulate a placenta!! Some interesting placenta facts:

🌸The Placenta is about 1/3 the size of the baby!

🌸The umbilical cord has 1 vein and 2 arteries that helps filter and transport blood, oxygen, and nutrients to your baby.

🌸 There is a jelly like substance called Wharton’s jelly on the umbilical cord that protects the blood supply from getting compressed.

🌸The placenta is full of iron, minerals, vitamins, protein, and hormones that aid in boosting breastmilk supply and recovery.
