Keeping it cool since 1937. ❄️

The modern ambulance is designed to be a mobile emergency room, but that was once a revolutionary concept. In 1937, the Hess and Eisenhardt Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, built the very first air-conditioned ambulance in the United States. These early models also began featuring medicine cabinets and two-way radios, paving the way for the advanced care provided by the modern EMS workforce.

As a dedicated EMS Clinician, you know that a functional AC unit is arguably the most important piece of "life-saving" equipment during a mid-July shift. We have all had those days where the back of the rig feels more like a sauna than a clinical environment: if only the 1937 model came with a guarantee that the AC would never break down on a 100-degree day!
