One of the great dangers with diabetes is the substantial increase in risk of other chronic diseases, such as dementia. Individuals with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes face significantly higher risks of cognitive impairment compared to the general population, and this suggests there may be shared biological mechanisms at work. (Alzheimer’s disease has even gained the nickname “type 3 diabetes.”)

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to freedom will never be forgotten.

To the families who have lost loved ones, and to all who have served—thank you. Today and always, we honor your strength and your legacy.

When a loved one with dementia accuses you of something that never happened—like moving their things or spilling a drink—it can hurt.
But here’s the truth: it’s not personal. It’s the disease.
Correcting them can escalate the situation or cause shame.
Instead, gently distract. Shift the moment to something calming.
Fold towels. Go for a walk. Offer a snack.
Distract, never shame.
Because protecting their dignity is more important than clearing your name.

Caring for someone with dementia? These 10 simple rules can change everything. Save this for the hard days.

Agree, never argue.

Redirect, never reason.

Distract, never shame.

Reassure, never lecture.

Reminisce, never say “remember.”

Repeat, never say “I told you.”

Do what they can do, never say “you can’t.”

Ask, never demand.

Encourage, never condescend.

Reinforce, never force.

One thing about Minute Women? We 💙 our caregivers!

Exceptional home care begins with the people providing it. We make it our mission to support, uplift, and appreciate our caregivers, knowing that their success depends on us as much as them. When they feel respected, empowered, and equipped to handle any situation, our clients feel the difference.

Sydney, one of our dedicated CNAs, reminds us how important an enriching environment can be to providing excellent care. Her commitment, like so many on our team, is what sets Minute Women apart.

Thank you, Sydney, for the heart you bring to your work every day! 🤗

She smiled at the kids… and kept walking.
For a second, she didn’t know who we were.

Alzheimer’s doesn’t always hit in big, obvious ways.
Sometimes it’s just a pause. A look. A smile that doesn’t recognize.

If you’ve felt that kind of heartbreak—
you’re not alone.
