Austin S. Robinson is an incredible music therapist and human. I’ve had the honor of having him as a professor at the University of Kentucky Music Therapy department and as a practicum and internship supervisor. He has guided me along as I opened a private practice, offered assistance with fundraisers, sound tech help and borrowing equipment. He goes above and beyond for his clients and his students and it’s an honor to have him as a friend, colleague, and mentor. This weekend he graduated with his PhD and we got to celebrate him today! Thanks to his wonderful wife for planning the party and his friends, family, music therapy co-workers, and his past and current music therapy students for coming to show him some love. CKC Therapies was honored to play a small part and host the gathering. Dr. Robinson, we are SO proud of you and thank you for all you do for our community.

It’s the season of giving. As we await our 501c3 status (application has been submitted) we could really use your help to make sure our families can still receive services. So many are struggling right now to access services like therapy, music lessons, and disability inclusive events and camps (including camps/childcare during winter break). We do not turn away anyone due to inability to pay. Even a small 1 time donation can help a family this holiday season. We can’t do what we do for our community without wonderful supporters like you.

Help Bridge the Gap for Life-Changing Services:Dive into the Season of Giving by sponsoring an individual's therapy, music lessons, or camp care at Central Kentucky Community Therapies. Your contribution ensures that people in our community access the necessary therapies to enhance their quality of....

These two individuals are power houses in the local disability advocacy field. Jim Littlefield, author of "Seeing Ability" has a podcast, called "Seeing Ability Podcast” where he interviews individuals with disabilities, parents of kids with disabilities, and community members working within the field. My dear friend, Mickaylyn Howard-Conrad, owner of Mick’s Pot Spot , was recently featured on the podcast. If you are looking for a raw, unfiltered, REAL look at what it is like to have a child with a disability, give this a listen. You will not regret a single second of listening to this podcast. Way to go, Mickaylyn! I am SO prfe

Both Heather and Cameron have been with CKC Therapies this past semester and we could not be happier to have them. Heather was our most recent community choir director and has voice lesson availabilities on Mondays and Tuesdays! Send us a message if you would like to reserve a spot with her.

Cameron is a board-certified music therapist from the University of Kentucky Music Therapy department and has been seeing music therapy clients at CKC this past semester as well as supervising practicum students from the University. He brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding of music therapy to CKC Therapies and is dedicated to sharing his knowledge with future music therapists.

We are so happy to have you both with us. Please give this a like, love, or comment, to show your appreciate to these individuals who are dedicated to bringing music to Lexington.

Music therapy is a great way to:
*Foster creativity
*Allow for autonomy
*Bring people together
*Work on speech goals
*Work on memory recall
*AND bring joy!

Thank you, CJ, for sharing this video and your song with our supporters! I hope it brings as much of a smile to their faces as it did to mine! ❤️

In the 1400’s the “r” word was introduced to the English language meaning “to make slow or delay”.

It was later adopted by the medical community to diagnosis and describe those with various disabilities.

In the 1970’s it began to make the change to being used as a way to call somebody an “idiot” or “stupid”, often in a joking way.

In 2010, Obama signed Rosa’s Law to replace “mental retardation” with the term “intellectual disability” from the Federal Law.

In 2013 the DSM-5 replaced “mental retardation” with “intellectual disability”.

The disability community had made it clear that the “r” word is offensive, demeaning, and cruel. CKC Therapies will NEVER use the “r” word or any other derogatory term towards any person.

Will you also take a stand and stop using this word? Give this post a like, heart, or comment if you’re committed to making the world more inclusive ❤️
