🎃 Happy Halloween from Rockbridge Area Health Center! 🎃
Today our hallways were invaded by senior citizens who forgot to take out their curlers, three mice who definitely can't read your chart, cats who might cough up a hairball instead of a diagnosis, our HR director as "Bill Nye the Hire-ence Guy" (who explains employee benefits with explosive enthusiasm), Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas (stitching together our schedules), a lonely Thing 2 still searching for Thing 1, an alien from Toy Story trapped in our imaginary claw machine yelling "The Claaaaw!", a pair in Christmas PJs who are clearly jumping the gun on holiday season, and a parade of staff in spirited tops.
If laughter is the best medicine, consider today's appointments a double dose! We hope our costume chaos brought a smile to your face today. (And yes, despite appearances, we ARE still qualified healthcare professionals!) 😂
PS For those keeping score at home, the pumpkin decorated as Oscar the Grouch took first prize, followed by Cookie Monster, and the gumball machine in third place.

Community Connections at National Night Out!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table at National Night Out at Hull's Drive-In to learn about and register for our School-Based Health Centers and other services!
In this photo, our dedicated Community Health Worker, Savannah, shares the many benefits of School-Based Health Centers with Sheriff Tony McFaddin of the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office. Savannah is one of two Community Health Workers supporting our programs at Rockbridge High School and Maury River Middle School.
These vital school-based programs bring healthcare directly to students where they are, reducing barriers to access, decreasing absences, and improving overall student wellbeing.
We're grateful to the Virginia Health Care Foundation for their generous grant that plays a major part in making these programs possible. Their support allows us to extend our mission of accessible healthcare into local schools, reaching students who might otherwise face challenges accessing care.

Our After-Hours Clinical Advice Line can help if:
• You need medical advice after we are closed
• You are not sure if an urgent care/emergency room visit is necessary
• You have questions about prescribed medication
• You have general health questions
* The registered nurses cannot provide diagnoses or treatment but can provide advice for something as simple as what over-the-counter remedy is appropriate for a cold symptom to something as complex as explaining a new medication.

The Rockbridge Area Health Center is a designated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and provides comprehensive primary and preventive health care to adults and children and serves insured, uninsured, under-insured, Medicaid and Medicare patients.
As a community health center, RAHC is a private, local, non-profit organization that provides health care services to residents of a geographic area that is medically underserved. Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) transitioned to a community health center in 2014 and serves anyone, regardless of ability to pay. Providing medical, dental, and behavioral health services under one roof, the health center’s mission has remained the same since opening its doors in 1992; to promote and provide access to comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable health care to improve the health and well-being of the community.
To meet the growing needs of the community, a $6.6 million building expansion was completed in 2019 that more than doubled the facility’s size, from a single floor of 9,000 sq. ft. to approximately 24,000 sq. ft. of space on two floors. The more spacious facility allows for greater access to primary medical care, such as family and internal medicine, by increasing the number of exam rooms from six to twelve, and to dental services by increasing the number of operatories from four to eight. Other services provided include pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, preventive care, and behavioral health services.
