May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚 Find out how our tele-health services and school-based health centers are expanding mental health access in our community 💚

In our region, the need is growing:
👉 About 1 in 4 adults experience depression—higher than the national average
👉 Mental health is the #1 health concern locally
👉 1 in 10 people need care but can’t access it

Rockbridge Area Health Center is working to close that gap through comprehensive, whole-person care—connecting mental and physical health services in one place.
Services include:
• Behavioral health support, counseling, and psychiatric care
• Treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and more
• Addiction and substance abuse recovery
• Telehealth options to improve access
Meeting people where they are makes the difference.
Through coordinated health support, care is brought directly into the community—especially for students and families who may otherwise face barriers.
Through school based health centers, students can receive:
• Mental health assessments and early intervention
• Individual and small group counseling
• Support for substance use and life stressors
By meeting people where they are—whether in clinics, schools, or at home—RAHC is helping ensure more individuals and families can get the support they need, when they need it. 💚

A huge thank you to Delta Dental of Virginia for featuring RAHC in the 2026 Smile Tour — and for the grant that made a meaningful difference for our patients.

With support from the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation's grant, Rockbridge Area Health Center was able to upgrade our dental imaging and X-ray equipment — a critical investment for a community where dental care is the single most commonly reported unmet health need.
Better imaging means more accurate diagnoses without the need for outside referrals, which allows our dental team to provide higher-quality care to every patient in Rockbridge County.

We are proud to be part of the Smile Tour and grateful for partners like Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation, who understand that access to dental care is access to health.

We’re excited to introduce the Smile Tour, a new series where we’re highlighting the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation’s 2025 grant recipients as they serve throughout 2026. Join our mascot, Flossy, as he jumps in the driver’s seat and travels across Virginia.

Each pit stop is a chance to learn more about the clinics and see the impact behind their work - the patients being served, the teams making it happen, and the communities gaining access to care.

These grants are helping clinics expand operatories, invest in critical equipment, and bring on dentists, hygienists, and support staff. All of these efforts help to address the dental care gaps facing communities across Virginia.

This tour is about showing what that impact looks like up close and sharing the stories behind it. We’ll be highlighting a new Smile Tour stop each week, so follow along as we go.

All aboard the 2026 Smile Tour! 🛣️💚🦷

We are deeply honored to share that Rockbridge Area Health Center has been selected as one of Virginia's inaugural Perinatal Health Hub Pilot Program organizations by the Virginia Department of Health. 💕

Out of 40 applicants across the Commonwealth, RAHC was chosen as one of a small group of organizations to pilot this statewide program, and we don't take that lightly.

This recognition means more than an award; it means our region's families are being seen.

Rockbridge County has no local birthing hospital. Families here have always navigated pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care without the safety net most communities take for granted. In the coming months, RAHC will be launching Strong Starts, our Perinatal Health Hub program designed to surround every mother with coordinated care from early pregnancy through baby's first year. A dedicated care coordinator, community health worker, and medical team will work together to make sure no family in Rockbridge County falls through the cracks.

Being named one of Virginia's first perinatal health hubs is a testament to this community — to the mothers who trusted us, the staff who show up every day, and the partners and donors who made Strong Starts possible.

Our Outreach team had a blast attending "A Day In K" on Wednesday night at Maury River Middle School.

A Day in K is a community gathering designed to connect families of rising kindergartners with local partners who support children's health, education, wellness, and safety, so every child starts school with the resources they need.

🎉 Big news for Buena Vista students!

We are honored to announce our new partnership with Buena Vista City Public Schools to bring a school-based health center to Parry McCluer High School!

Following a vote by the Buena Vista School Board, RAHC has signed a memorandum of understanding to open a clinic on campus that will serve middle and high school students — offering medical care, physicals, vaccinations, and behavioral health services without students ever having to leave school.

This partnership means fewer barriers to care, healthier kids, and stronger families. We've seen it firsthand at Rockbridge County High School and Maury River Middle School, where our school-based clinics are already exceeding expectations.

We can't wait to bring that same level of care to the Buena Vista community. 💙

Patients can reach our after-hours clinical advice line at (540) 319-5181.

Call our after-hours advice line if:
• You need medical advice after we are closed
• You are not sure if an urgent care/emergency room visit is necessary
• You have questions about prescribed medication
• You have general health questions

* The registered nurses cannot provide diagnoses or treatment. Still, they can provide advice for something as simple as what over-the-counter remedy is appropriate for a cold symptom to something as complex as explaining a new medication.

In case of emergency, DIAL 911.

A giant THANK YOU to everyone who joined us yesterday for the 18th Annual Rockbridge Bull & Oyster Fest! From the first shucked oyster to the final bluegrass note, the energy at the Virginia Horse Center was incredible.
