We have big news to share with our patients and referral sources!

Davidson Eye Associates, P.A., and Dr. James F. Slyman have joined Wake Eye Institute. Dr. Slyman and the entire staff at our practice are excited to now be a part of the Wake Eye Institute team and the Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health organization. Simultaneously, we are also welcoming a new Optometrist, Dr. Grady Elliott, to our practice. Dr. Elliott has been in practice for 25 years and brings considerable experience in comprehensive ocular health to our patients.

As the founder of Davidson Eye Associates, Dr. Slyman will continue to actively see patients full-time in our Lexington office. This merger will allow us to better meet the growing needs of our patients and respond to the increasing demand for specialized eye care services in Davidson County and the surrounding areas.

We've come a long way since our practice first opened in a small, rented building on the town square in 1981. Thanks to you, our patients, over the past decades we've grown into a regional healthcare organization, redefining standards of eye care in this area. Our 10,000-square-foot, custom-designed office now has 10 fully equipped examination rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic technology, and two onsite operating rooms.

But one thing has never changed - our commitment to providing the very best possible care for our patients, young and old. Thank you for your support of Davidson Eye Associates in the past. We look forward to seeing you in the next decade as we become part of Wake Eye Institute.

After making a lasting impact on patients in this area for the last 42 years, Dr. C. David Sasser has decided to retire. His last day of seeing patients will be September 30, 2024. With his departure, our Midway office will also be closing. While we are sad to see Dr. Sasser leave, we are excited for him to have more time for traveling with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dr. James F. Slyman will continue providing the same high level of eye care you’ve come to expect from Davidson Eye Associates at our Lexington office. If you have any questions, please call 336-243-2436.

A child’s vision gets stronger every year. The developing eye is learning to do many things better, such as:
- Accommodation or eye focusing. This allows the eye to quickly change focus between distances.
- Seeing things in 3D (three dimensions). This is known as depth perception.
- Tracking, which helps the eyes follow a moving target.
- Convergence, which helps both eyes focus together on an object at the same time.
