Meet Your Doctor: Elaine Alexander, MD, Lexington Clinic Rheumatology
Dr. Elaine Alexander is a board-certified rheumatologist dedicated to providing top-tier care to patients with autoimmune conditions at Lexington Clinic’s 1221 South Broadway location.
She fell in love with rheumatology during her residency at Ohio State University, especially after witnessing transformative moments for patients. "I remember seeing a man with ankylosing spondylitis, and how his life was completely changed with the addition of one of the biologic medications. I also loved the long term relationships made between their patients and their physicians and really getting to follow them through different parts of their lives."
Her approach to patient care starts with listening. “If you listen, I believe that the patient can reveal what is wrong." She focuses on evidence-based, practical solutions, shared decision-making, education, and meeting patients where they are, prioritizing the person over the numbers. "Labs are not everything! It is much better to treat the patient than a lab value."
Dr. Alexander builds genuine connections by being herself, and treasures the deep relationships formed during vulnerable times, like supporting a patient through severe illness. "Just being able to be there for her at a vulnerable time in her life was very meaningful."
Outside the office, she's a devoted mom to two elementary school-age kids, recharging through family travel, hiking, skiing, reading, and her church community.
A Lexington native and UK medical school graduate, she gives back locally and globally, from co-leading the Salvation Army Clinic in med school (where she met her husband!), to an eye-opening month of treating patients in Malawi.
She loves serving our community because "Lexington, Kentucky is home for me. I love being able to provide excellent rheumatology care to my people here at home."
Dr. Alexander is the kind of doctor who makes a real difference, one patient relationship at a time. For more information or appointments, visit LexingtonClinic.com/rheumatology
