👍 Big news from Dr. Umansky and our team at our Ambulatory Surgery Center!

We recently completed a groundbreaking outpatient procedure using the new TOUCH® CMC 1 thumb joint implant — one of the first of its kind in the country.

This innovative option is designed to help patients move with greater comfort and strength.

Dr. Umansky shared why this matters for our community: “This implant has the potential to restore natural movement and strength, not just reduce pain.”

Patients return home the same day, with a treatment plan tailored to help them get back to what they love!

Meet Your Doctor: Sarah Min, MD, Lexington Clinic Rheumatology

Dr. Sarah Min is as passionate about solving medical puzzles as she is about building meaningful relationships with her patients.

Rheumatology first captured her interest during residency. “I gravitated toward rare, diagnostically complex cases and loved the process of problem solving,” she shared. “It’s exciting to work in a field where treatments continue to evolve and can truly transform a patient’s quality of life.”

What guides her practice is simple: collaboration and trust. “My approach is multi-faceted — patient-centered, humanistic, and evidence-based. I aim to have a collaborative relationship with my patients. Every decision requires a holistic view of the patient and a true partnership in their care.”

Dr. Min believes in never giving up, even in the face of difficult setbacks. She shared a powerful story from one patient’s journey: “He told me he understood he could potentially die soon and had prepared himself and his family. He said he knew I had done everything I could and was grateful our paths crossed. I cried, laughed, and told him it wasn’t his time yet. We still had work to do. Thankfully, he’s still here and doing much better.”

Outside the clinic, she recharges by spending time with her husband and dog, watching movies, reading, and rock climbing at the Red River Gorge. A mission trip to Haiti during residency also shaped her perspective, strengthening her ability to problem-solve creatively and lead with compassion; even in resource-limited settings.

Changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, or blood in your stool could point to colorectal cancer. The good news? It’s one of the most preventable cancers when caught early.
Read more from board-certified gastoenterologist An-Yu Chen, MD:

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in the United States. About 4% of Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer at some point in their lives. Colorectal cancer is second only to lung cancer for the number...

Meet Your Doctor: Elaine Alexander, MD, Lexington Clinic Rheumatology

Dr. Elaine Alexander is a board-certified rheumatologist dedicated to providing top-tier care to patients with autoimmune conditions at Lexington Clinic’s 1221 South Broadway location.

She fell in love with rheumatology during her residency at Ohio State University, especially after witnessing transformative moments for patients. "I remember seeing a man with ankylosing spondylitis, and how his life was completely changed with the addition of one of the biologic medications. I also loved the long term relationships made between their patients and their physicians and really getting to follow them through different parts of their lives."

Her approach to patient care starts with listening. “If you listen, I believe that the patient can reveal what is wrong." She focuses on evidence-based, practical solutions, shared decision-making, education, and meeting patients where they are, prioritizing the person over the numbers. "Labs are not everything! It is much better to treat the patient than a lab value."

Dr. Alexander builds genuine connections by being herself, and treasures the deep relationships formed during vulnerable times, like supporting a patient through severe illness. "Just being able to be there for her at a vulnerable time in her life was very meaningful."

Outside the office, she's a devoted mom to two elementary school-age kids, recharging through family travel, hiking, skiing, reading, and her church community.

A Lexington native and UK medical school graduate, she gives back locally and globally, from co-leading the Salvation Army Clinic in med school (where she met her husband!), to an eye-opening month of treating patients in Malawi.
She loves serving our community because "Lexington, Kentucky is home for me. I love being able to provide excellent rheumatology care to my people here at home."

Dr. Alexander is the kind of doctor who makes a real difference, one patient relationship at a time. For more information or appointments, visit LexingtonClinic.com/rheumatology
