AOCA - American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists This page will be regularly updated with AOCA news and events. We hope that you will use this page to communicate with us and with your fellow members!

The AOCA was recognized in 1959 as a Specialty College of the American Osteopathic Association. Just as the osteopathic profession has grown over the past 50 years, the AOCA has also grown. Our college now has over 1200 Fellows. The AOCA is comprised of attending physicians, residents and medical students from across the United States who have dedicated themselves to the advancement of the field of anesthesiology and pain management, as well as their careers. The American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists has expanded tremendously over the decades to become a strong and influential specialty college.

Join us for the AOCA November Second Sunday Webinar Series featuring Frederick Balzer, MD, who will be speaking on "A More Coherent Approach to Managing Vasoplegic Shock" — a deep dive into the future of shock resuscitation. Explore the limits of conventional treatments, gain new insights into cellular mechanisms, and discover how microcirculatory monitoring and hemodynamic coherence can transform patient outcomes.

Dr. Balzer is a board-certified anesthesiologist and teaching faculty at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Balzer brings a wealth of experience—from cutting-edge gene therapy research at UPenn to nearly a decade in private practice. Since joining Jefferson in 2019, he’s been a key mentor to new residents in the OR. Off-duty? He wrangles 4 Ridgebacks, 21 chickens, and two teenagers in South Jersey.
