Lexington offers families many fun and magical events to celebrate the holidays 🎄, and few can outshine the Winter Village at Gatton Park. This free event is open nightly from 5p to 10p and dazzles guests with an 80 ft. tall digital Christmas tree, a glowing winter playground, interactive surprises, warm cocoa and delicious holiday treats 🍭.

While outdoor events with cold air ❄️ and warm campfires add to the Christmas spirit, they pose a risk for those with asthma. If you or a family member experiences asthma symptoms in cold weather, here are some precautions to take before heading outside to celebrate the season:

1) Loosely wrap a scarf around your nose and mouth to warm the air as you breathe.

2) Take your medications as directed and always have a quick-relief inhaler available.

3) Check with your doctor about using a quick-relief inhaler 20 to 30 minutes before going out.

It’s that time of year again— spooky decorations are appearing in front yards 👻, morning air feels a bit crisper ❄️, and pumpkin spice can be found in everything from drinks to desserts and even toothpaste! With so much pumpkin spice around you might wonder, is it possible to be allergic to it? Well, pumpkin spice is made from a variety of ingredients including cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. If you are allergic to any of these common herbs and spices, then you would also be allergic to pumpkin spice. Fortunately for those who love pumpkin spice, an allergic reaction from it is rare. Unfortunately for those who can’t stand the holiday flavor, it’s still going to be finding its way into more foods and products each year. Pumpkin spice ice cream anyone? 🍦

Simply choose non-food treats to hand out on Halloween 🪀 🖍️💍 and display a teal-colored pumpkin at your door to show your treats are allergy-safe! 1) You can begin to have allergies at any time in life.

2) A bite from a lone star tick can make a person severely allergic to red meat and dairy.

3) Some people are allergic to metals used in surgical implants and tattoo inks.

4) Shaving your cat won’t help with cat allergies 🐈. It’s their dander and saliva that contain allergens.

5) You can’t actually be allergic to work, sorry. But you can be allergic to substances and environments you encounter while at work.

6) People with ragweed allergies can also be allergic to chamomile tea and lotions.
