SOULFUL Priorities, SLO-GA and Healing
Happy Fall Y'all -
Halloween is behind us, the leaves are dropping, the mornings are chilly here in Lexington, and I'm starting to focus on preparations for Thanksgiving. I bet you are too. This is the time of year when everything speeds up and the demands for our time and attention shift to the holidays. It's a lot … and this year I'm trying to intentionally slow it down.
One of the questions I have been asking myself is what are the action items for this season that I do because they are "expected" of me and what are the action items I do because they feed my soul? I recently noticed that my To Do list is full of the expected items and that the soulful items seem to be things I don't make a high priority. Those are the things I seem to relegate to the bottom of the list, to be done only after I have accomplished all the other items expected of me. As though they are a reward and not a necessity for my well-being.
How strange that I frequently allow the SOULFUL things that bring me joy, comfort, ease, energy, peace, love, and good health to take a back seat. Does this sound familiar to you?
I'm taking time this month to shift this way of thinking. One way I'm working towards that is to put one action item that feeds my soul at the top of my TO DO list every single day. I'm going to attempt to do that thing FIRST every day. I realize my upside-down priorities are a long-held habit and it may take some practice to change to a life guided by more SOULFUL priorities, but a girl has to start somewhere.
I'm also re-evaluating where, how, and with whom I want to spend my holidays. Thinking in advance about how I will gather the energy I need to create the holidays I want this year means setting aside some quiet time to journal or sit with myself. I invite you to consider some of these thoughts for yourself and notice what comes up – anxiety, relief, sorrow, excitement, or something else?
If any of my offerings in the comments below can assist you in creating SOULFUL priorites for yourself, I'd love the opportunity to work together. Please reach out and let’s find a way I can support your needs.
