Spotlight on Hot Pilates Bridge! 🍑

This glute strengthening move is the focus of the beginning of every Hot Pilates class. 💪🏼

Let’s break it down a little…

Your Hot Pilates bridge pose is d i f f e r e n t than a yoga bridge pose. Why? The goal is different.
In your yoga class, bridge pose is a backbend. The goal is to create spinal extension (backward bending).
In your Hot Pilates class, bridge pose is to strengthen your glutes, and warm up your body for the rest of class.

What does that mean for your form?

In Hot Pilates, you don’t lift as high! In fact, your goal should be to keep your upper back and shoulder blades on the floor.

On 👏🏼 the 👏🏼 floor! 👏🏼

If you lift too high, you’re just shifting your body weight back to your shoulders. And that won’t strengthen your glutes!

Meet Natalie! 🙌🏼

Natalie has been coming to Sterling for over four years! 👏🏼 Her favorite thing about Sterling is the HEAT. 🔥 “The heat challenges me, it’s where I find strength, and it’s such a good detox for the mind and body.”

Her favorite class is Iron Hour [Yoga Sculpt]. She loves the combination of yoga, weights, cardio bursts, and the strength it gives her 💪🏼

When she isn’t at Sterling, Natalie is a hockey mom to three sweet boys. [“Yes, we do have hockey in Lexington, check it out!” she says.] she also enjoys the simple things— quality family time, ice cream, card/trivia games, and getting out in nature.

Her advice to studio newcomers? “Be true to yourself and your journey, you’re stronger than you think. Smile at yourself once in a while, and block everything else out.”

Meet Colleen! 👋🏼

Colleen has been teaching at Sterling for over two years now, and she teaches Vinyasa, Hot Pilates, and Yoga Sculpt. 💪🏼

Her favorite things about Sterling? The HEAT 🔥 and the incredible people 🫶🏼

When she isn’t at Sterling, Colleen enjoys paddling, rock climbing, camping, and trail running with her husband and her pup. If she isn’t outside, you might find her snuggled up with a cup of tea, a couple of cats, and a fantasy novel. She loves traveling, plants, and animals. She rounds out her time as a Women’s Health Coach, swim coach, and a musician.

Her advice to newcomers to the studio? “Find something FUN and playful about every class, every workout, every connection you make here at Sterling. Most of us are all highly driven, competitive people, so it’s easy to put pressure on yourself or take your workouts and yoga/pilates practice very seriously. Remember, your body feels more free, light, and relaxed (and you feel more of the benefits) when you release expectations and focus more on showing up and having a great time!”

Our Hot Pilates training is officially COMPLETE! 🥳 You’ll start seeing new names on the schedule and new faces at the front of the room. We are SO PROUD of our new teachers, and hope you will be too. Remember to treat them with kindness and grace as they navigate being new teachers. 🫶🏼

Haven’t tried our Hot Pilates class yet? It’s time! It’s a high intensity, low impact, interval class using Pilates principles. Most importantly, it’s fun! 🙌🏼

Meet Sara! 👋🏼

Sara teaches Vinyasa at Sterling and has been on our team for almost a year.

Her favorite thing about Sterling? “One is seeing our clients leave with smiles. It’s amazing to see the difference that mindful movement makes in our community. And my co-workers are absolutely fantastic!” 🫶🏼

When she isn’t at Sterling, Sara likes to spend time with her kids, friends, and family, cook, go to concerts, read, and be outside near the water! 🌊

Her advice for newcomers to Sterling is this:

“Try everything at least once! All the classes are great, they each have their own vibe so you can build your schedule around what you need.”

Spotlight on PLANK POSE! 💡

This powerful pose strengthens your core - including the re**us abdominis, transverse abdominis, and obliques, back muscles, shoulder muscles, and even the legs and glutes to a lesser extent!

Plank pose done regularly will improve your posture and give you greater stability and balance.

Proper form is key! 🔑 Stack your shoulders over your wrists, keep your head, neck, and hips in alignment with your spine, and engage all your core muscles up and in. ⤴️ Push the floor away, and b r e a t h e 🌀

There’s always the option to lower your knees to the floor, or to take plank from your forearms rather than your palms.
