Ali Blair Massage Therapy

Ali Blair Massage Therapy Staying healthy and active requires a holistic and multi-faceted approach. Massage therapy is a great way to help prevent and manage pain and curtail stress.

Years of experience as a therapist and teacher as well as hundreds of hours of continuing education have allowed me to cultivate many evidence-based techniques to relieve your pain and promote deep relaxation. I combine relaxation massage with deep, therapeutic techniques to help you prevent and manage pain and stress so that you can work, play, and exercise better and enjoy life more fully. I will tailor each massage session to your personal needs and value your feedback to find what modalities and pressure works best for you. To help you find every day solutions to repetitive issues that can cause pain I can suggest stretches, self-treatment for trigger points, and ergonomic changes for work and home. Research shows that massage can help with muscle and joint pain as well as stress and psychological issues such as PTSD and depression. I have helped clients resolve back, neck, shoulder and knee pain, recover from sports injuries and falls, reduce tension and migraine headaches, and manage fibromyalgia and other chronic pain pathologies. I am happy to consult with you to determine how massage can best help you and meet your individual needs.

Big changes! Sagan glamor shot for visibility.

A wonderful opportunity has been presented to me and there are some big changes ahead. I have accepted a full-time massage therapist position at UK's Integrative Medicine and Health. IMH offers a variety of complementary medical services to the public, UK staff, and patients.

I will teach my last class at Lexington Healing Arts Academy on August 21 and will be closing Ali Blair Massage Therapy after August 27. I will begin work at IMH the first week of September.

Leaving my teaching position at LHAA is really tough. I have personally learned a great deal through teaching anatomy, physiology, and pathology to others. Watching my students learn, graduate, and go on to become amazing, successful massage therapists has been an absolute joy!

Owning my own practice has truly been a life-changing experience. I cannot express how grateful I am to each and every one of my clients. Your presence allowed me to grow my skills as a therapist and business woman. I hope you come see me at UK.

As difficult as it is to make these big changes I am really excited about this opportunity to work in a medical setting. I'll be faced with new and interesting challenges that will allow me to use the skills and knowledge I've honed over the last 20-plus years as a therapist and teacher and continue to expand my abilities so I can help an even larger community.

I will be able to start seeing clients at UK near the end of September and will keep you updated as I get more information. I still have appointments at my private office available between now and closing and you can still schedule with me through my website.

I hadn't attended a massage conference in a long time. This year's Kentucky AMTA meet was fantastic! I took a class with some fabulous people that taught me new concepts and techniques and caught up with some former students and colleagues.

Twelve years ago today I saw my first client at Ali Blair Massage Therapy. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself in to but it has been one of the most rewarding challenges I've ever faced.

I'm so very grateful to the clients that joined me in my new adventure as well as to the clients that have come to me since. Thank you so much for your support, your referrals, and your trust in me. You have helped me grow my business and my skills.

Another anniversary happens in April, I will have been a practicing massage therapist for 23 years! I never imagined this would be the life-altering journey it has become. I'm so blessed to be able to do good work that helps others and that I love to do.

Last summer I attended a 48 hour continuing education course on hospital-based massage at UK. I learned that careful, mindful massage is appropriate for people in all stages of life and health despite debilitating medical conditions. We worked with people in hospice during the program and being able to offer massage as palliative care was heartening for both myself and my patients. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hospice-massage-therapists/?fbclid=IwAR2OVoZrr1EMl62Gc3bIxNU5sF6p82EmpVF8682l8syuf0D4oYDbr-Eln2Q

The pandemic disrupted the massage industry. Now those who specialize in hospice massage therapy are in demand and redefining their roles.

When I'm out of the office I'm often found adding to my native plant garden. I fell in love with native plants while in the Kentucky Master Naturalist program a few year ago. These plants are vital to providing food and sanctuary to local insects and birds and provide year-round beauty to my yard!

Running a massage business during the pandemic has made me realize I need more scheduling and payment options. I have found a program that better suits my needs (sorry Schedulicity, you've been great but it's time to move on!)

From now on, both in my office and from my website I will be using MassageBook. It has features that I feel will make it easier for both you and me:

You will be able to see my availability and request an appointment time. No more phone/email/text tag.
You will be able to pre-pay for appointments if you wish with Square, the same credit card program used in office.
You will be able to purchase and customize gift certificates that you can email or print directly from the site, no more delay!
Intake forms and other documents can be filled out online.

While I am making the transition over the next month if you have already scheduled with me you may receive confirmation and reminder emails from both Schedulicity and MassageBook. You may also get automated intake forms; I know you've probably filled them out in my office but, if you would, please humor me so I can see how well they work. I am also still learning to use and customize all of the functions so please be patient as I get it all figured out.

Feel free to contact me if you have any issues or questions.

I'm optimistic about getting COVID under control now that vaccines are widely available and many people are getting them. Mask mandates are being lifted for those who have been vaccinated but due to the close physical nature of massage caution should still be exercised. I will continue requiring masks in my office and follow CDC recommendations for health care settings.

I am taking clients on a case by case basis. If you'd like to schedule please call, text, or email me directly.

https://www.abmp.com/updates/blog-posts/what-cdc-s-new-mask-recommendations-mean-massage-therapists

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued some new guidance about mask usage among vaccinated people. In short, they said take ’em off—inside and outside, 6 feet apart and closer. But you may be wondering, what does this mean about masks in my session room?

My Philosophy

Staying healthy and active requires a holistic and multi-faceted approach. Massage therapy is a great way to help prevent and manage pain and curtail stress. I combine relaxation massage with deep, therapeutic techniques to help you prevent and manage pain and stress so that you can work, play, and exercise better and enjoy life more fully. I have been practicing therapeutic massage since 2001 and have experience with many techniques including deep orthopedic and trigger point work to help resolve pain and relaxing deep Swedish massage to provide much needed space to unwind and reconnect. Treatments are individually designed to meet your needs and change as they do.
