Big announcement went out to all my massage clients today via email so I thought I’d share it here too:

In Blows a Season of Change!

Greetings Dear Massage Clients and Friends!

As most of you know by now, I will be starting a new adventure this fall - going back to school to pursue a new career in nursing! This past June marked the beginning of my 24th year as a massage therapist and what a remarkable time it has been! After much consideration, I have made the very difficult decision to close my massage practice and put my time, focus, energy and dedication into the full-time accelerated nursing program I'll be attending beginning the last week of August.

My last week of seeing clients in my current location will be August 18-22. If you are a current client of mine and would like to take advantage of the last several openings, please check my online schedule for the available spots.

Please note - I will not be accepting new clients as of August 1, 2025. I also will not be able to accept any outstanding gift certificates past July 31, 2025 (availability not guaranteed).

I want to thank you for your time as a client with me, whether it was recent or over the past many years. You have made my time as a massage therapist the BEST!!! I am deeply grateful for the time you have invested in yourself to better your wellness with massage and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to partner with you in your wellness journey. I am forever grateful and blessed because of it.

I don't love goodbyes, so instead this is "see you soon!"

All my best to you in love and gratitude dear friends,

Jen Patterson, LMT, RTY

Y’all!!!!! It’s NOT in your head! I’m so excited research is being published about women in peri to post menopause validating our symptoms!!! 🙌 Read this! Print it! Take it to you doctors, let’s spread the word

Abstract:

“Fifty-one percent of humans are born with ovaries. As the ovarian production of estrogen diminishes in midlife and ultimately stops, it is estimated that more than 47 million women worldwide enter the menopause transition annually. More than 70% will experience musculoskeletal symptoms and 25% will be disabled by them through the transition from perimenopause to postmenopause. This often-unrecognized collective of musculoskeletal symptoms, largely influenced by estrogen flux, includes arthralgia, loss of muscle mass, loss of bone density and progression of osteoarthritis, among others. In isolation, it can be difficult for clinicians and patients to adequately appreciate the substantial role of decreasing estrogen, anticipate the onset of related symptoms and actively treat to mitigate future detrimental processes. Thus, in this review we introduce a new term, the musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause, to describe the collective musculoskeletal signs and symptoms associated with the loss of estrogen. Given the significant effects of these processes on quality of life and the associated personal and financial costs, it is important for clinicians and the women they care for to be aware of this terminology and the constellation of musculoskeletal processes for which proper risk assessment and prophylactic management are of consequence.”

My Story

My name is Jen Patterson and I am a licensed massage therapist. I feel blessed to be in the business of helping to heal others by bringing about a better sense of wellness to the body through massage therapy. As a college athlete, I learned how to push my body to limits that seemed impossible. Unfortunately, sometimes pushing through those limits brought on pain. It wasn’t until many years into my massage career that I started to question the “no pain, no gain” philosophy. Pain serves (or should serve) as a warning sign to the body that something may be wrong. Often times as an athlete, we learn to tune out this signal. But if we tune out too long, these signals turn into pain and dysfunction. Massage therapy is a wonderful way to bring awareness back into the body (prevention) and can restore wellness so that the body can continue to do what you ask it to do (healing).

Following my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology - Exercise Science from the University of Kentucky, I went on to complete a massage therapy certification program in the Bluegrass. I have worked in numerous settings including physical therapy, athletic training, personal training and fitness gyms. I have travelled with various collegiate-level sports teams, worked hundreds of triathlons, marathons, cycling events and various other sporting events around KY as a on-site massage therapist. Aside from seeing clients in my private massage practice of over 18+ years, I teach at Lexington Healing Arts Academy and am the student sports massage outreach coordinator for our community. I also partner with various local race directors in Kentucky to provide on-site event sports massage for athletes participating in events. My clinical massage training is in Myofascial Massage Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT), and Orthopedic/Sports Massage Therapy. I am also certified in Kinesiotaping.

In the last 5 years, I have leaped into the world of essential oils with Young Living. I now include essential oils (aromatherapy) in almost every massage session and love the added natural benefits it has to offer my clients. As a little girl, I loved the idea of being a medicine woman like in traditional Native American culture and used to wear a little leather medicine bag around my neck. Today, I am grateful to be gifted with the healing hands of touch in bringing restorative wellness back to the body. I am on a quest for deeper knowledge into health and wellness.... and am honored to share this journey with others.
