🍂 Flu season is here — protect yourself and the people you love! 💉

Getting your annual flu vaccine is one of the easiest ways to stay healthy, reduce severe illness, and keep our community strong. It’s quick, safe, and recommended for everyone 6 months and older.

If you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet, now is the perfect time!
Let’s keep ourselves, our families, and our patients healthy this fall and winter. 🍁

Please help us welcome our newest medical provider,
Dora Sims, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Dora comes to us with 24 years of diverse nursing experience, including med-surg, primary care, same-day surgery, recovery room, endoscopy, oral surgery, care management, and most recently, inpatient hospice. Originally from Eastern Kentucky, she has called Central Kentucky home for the past 14 years.

She earned her ADN from Lee’s and Hazard Community College at age 21, followed by her BSN and MSN-FNP from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Dora shared that she is thrilled to serve her hometown community again. She has enjoyed getting to know many of our staff over the past few months and is excited to see how our clinic continues to grow and make an impact. For Dora, this work is more than a career—it’s a calling—and she truly feels that Bluegrass Community Health Center is exactly where she is meant to be.

Outside of work, Dora enjoys spending time with her husband and son, attending church, staying active, traveling—especially to new tropical destinations—connecting with friends, and picking up new hobbies. Her latest adventure: learning to crochet, which she says has been a lot of fun.

Please join us in giving Dora a very warm BCHC welcome!

💜🎗️ November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️💜

This month, we shine a light on one of the most aggressive and difficult-to-detect cancers. Pancreatic cancer often shows few early symptoms, which makes awareness and education incredibly important.

Know the signs:
• Abdominal or back pain
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
• Unexplained weight loss
• Changes in appetite
• New-onset diabetes
• Digestive problems

While these symptoms can be caused by many conditions, recognizing them early and speaking with a healthcare provider can make a meaningful difference.

At Bluegrass Community Health Center, we stand with survivors, families, caregivers, and all who have been impacted by pancreatic cancer. We are committed to supporting our community through education, prevention, and accessible care.

💜 Join us in raising awareness, honoring those we’ve lost, and supporting those still fighting.

🫁💙 November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month 💙🫁

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States—but early detection can save lives. This month, we honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and stand with the families and caregivers affected by lung cancer.

Know the facts:
• Lung cancer often shows no symptoms until it’s advanced.
• A low-dose CT scan can detect lung cancer early.
• Screening is recommended for adults 50–80 who have a history of heavy smoking.

If you’re unsure about your risk or whether you qualify for screening, the team at Bluegrass Community Health Center is here to help. Early detection and education are powerful tools in the fight against lung cancer.

🎗️ Let’s raise awareness, support our community, and encourage those at risk to get screened.
