Today, about 15 volunteers -- survivors, those in treatment, family, friends -- joined us in downtown Lexington to hang teal bows for Turn the Towns Teal Inc.

September is Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month and the bows will hang on Main Street all month long. We have a teal bow thoroughfare on Main Street from Broadway to Rose Street.

Each bow has a URL to get more information about ovarian and gynecologic cancer.

Watch WKYT tonight at 6pm for a piece on our activity today.

If you have pictures from today, please email them to webadmin@bocsky.org and we'll get them posted. We'll share here on Facebook and also to our website www.bocsky.org

Thank you to Donut Days Bakery for supplying our treats this morning for the volunteers.

Thank you everyone for giving your time to share awareness. We appreciate everyone so much!

Friends, we need your help please! Tomorrow at 9am we are meeting in front of the Kentucky Theatre on Main Street in Lexington to hang bows for Turn the Towns Teal Inc.

We need volunteers to show up and help us cover the lamp posts from Broadway to Rose Street, all along Main Street. September is Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. The teal bows have a URL for more information.

It's really easy, each group of volunteers is given a trash bag of bows and supplies. You wrap the post, tie it with zip ties and done!

Please join us as we cover Main Street in Lexington to share information. The bows will be up all of September.

September is Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month!

As we approach September, we are sharing again our presentation on "Ovarian Cancer and You" pulling together information from Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance OCRA National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and Society of Gynecologic Oncology

Since this workshop in May at the Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association Annual Meeting, the statistics have changed.

A woman’s lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer is 1 in 91.
A woman’s lifetime risk of dying from invasive ovarian cancer is 1 in 143.
Ovarian cancer survival rates are much lower than other cancers that affect women.
The relative five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is 51.6% percent.
Mortality rates are slightly higher for African American women than for Caucasian women.

Please share this post with others -- the presentation, flyer, and active learning worksheet for you to use for notes are available on the homepage of www.BOCSky.org

There is no one test to diagnose ovarian cancer, and a pap smear will not detect it. The presentation shares symptoms and risk factors.
