The Shepherd’s House is a long-term treatment program for men with chemical dependency. The house was founded in 1989 after Fred Hood, the founder, saw a need in the community for long-term treatment for chemically dependent men. Hood, along with Good Shepherd Church, the United Way, the City of Lexington, Kentucky Housing Corporation and numerous volunteers helped get the house started. The Shepherd’s House is licensed as an intermediate treatment facility, and is an affiliate of the Bluegrass Mental-Health Mental Retardation Board. Since its’ opening, the Shepherd’s House has served over 1000 men. The mission of the Shepherd’s House is to support the early recovery of chemically dependent men. The goals of the Shepherd’s House are to provide transitional housing and support services to adult male alcoholics and drug-addicted individuals to increase their probability of achieving and maintaining an alcohol/drug-free lifestyle. WHAT WE DO:

The Shepherd’s House provides a variety of support services to the adult males that live in our three transitional housing facilities. All clients of Shepherd’s House are adult men, ages eighteen and over, who are dependent on drugs or alcohol. Prior to their admission, clients have completed some form of treatment that may include detox, inpatient, or outpatient treatment. We build on the foundation clients receive in primary treatment in order to prepare them to return as fully functioning members of society. The Shepherd’s House will be hosting the 18th Annual Run for Recovery 5K and 1-mile fun walk in at Keeneland.Race Course in Lexington, KY. Shepherd’s House is a 12 to 18 month transitional residential treatment program for men 18 years of age and older. It is a structured program that promotes personal responsibility and accountability for those seeking sustained abstinence from mood and mind-altering substances. Way back in 2000, Leroy Sanborn persuaded Shepherd's House to produce the inaugural Run For Recovery. Leroy, a runner since the late 90's, two time Boston Marathon finisher, and a graduate of Shepherd's House, continues to give back to the Shepherd's House and the community with his support of this race. The race attracts both serious and not so serious runners and walkers. Family friendly, pet friendly, a great course and a great cause!
