I’ve been seeing Vi for over a decade, and she’s truly the best. Her skill, intuition, and genuine care make every session exactly what I need — whether it’s releasing tension from running my business, working out sore muscles from dance, or simply resetting my mind and body. The studio is peaceful, spotless, and welcoming, and Pete is incredible too. Kentucky Massage & Bodyworks is an essential part of my wellness routine, and I can’t recommend Vi enough.

For several years, my back pain had been treated through lumbar epidural
injections. For me, it was ineffective, painful, and invasive. The next step offered was surgery, the thing I wanted the least. In speaking with my Primary Care Physician, he pointed out that massage therapy could at least supplement my treatment. Three years later, I no longer require injections,
surgery is off the table, and my pain is its lowest point in 15+ years. Vi’s
approach was to treat me, not an immediate focus on my back pain, but me. This approach has greatly helped me as a whole. I look forward to my
monthly KY Massage & Bodywork appointment and leave with a reset on pain relief and peace of mind.

The Craniosacral Therapy Asoociation states:

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle but potent way of working with the body using a light touch. It supports your body’s innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself as well as helping to reduce stress and build underlying energy. It is suitable for everyone, from newly-born babies to the elderly.

I have been getting a monthly massage for the past 30 years. During that time I have used 3 main therapist (give or take). Pete is the most recent one and he has such a relaxing and calming vibe. He pays attention to the little details: eye mask, lavender heated neck pillow, and heated towels. The beauty of using the same therapist is he knows where the hot spots are and can tend to them without me even uttering a word. The clinic space is quiet and calm. I highly recommend Kentucky Massage and Bodywork.

If you’re looking for truly healing bodywork, I can’t recommend this place enough. Pete is incredibly talented, intuitive, and genuine—his work has helped me with everything from physical injuries and tension to overall wellness, and mind-body balance. Vi, the owner, is just as amazing—kind, skilled, and so welcoming. Every session here feels like a full reset. I’m truly grateful to have found them!

📙 Massage History 📗

Swedish massage is the foundation on our massage practice. It is the basics, if you will. However, the techniques have French names: effleurage, petrissage, and tapotement.

Is Swedish massage truly Swedish? No, it isn’t. Interestingly, what we call “Swedish massage” in the United States is referred to as “classic massage” in Sweden and most parts of Europe. The Swedish massage is one of the most common types of massage you can get. Swedish massage is often seen as the cornerstone of massage therapy in America. It provides a solid foundation and serves as a main technique that many therapists learn.

Henrik Ling is most commonly referred to the founder of Swedish massage. “Towards the ends of his studied Ling developed a system of exercise coined, medical gymnastics. Medical gymnastics included calisthenics, stretching, and even some massage techniques.”

Johann Mezger “began his journey into the world of medical gymnastics. Mezger was a Dutch doctor who had a formal affinity for physical fitness and gymnastics. His formal studies allowed him to treat his patients whom had minor sprains using French "friction" techniques.”
