"The safety of our emotional connection defines our relationship in bed as well as out. Depending on how comfortable we are with closeness and how safe we feel about needing our spouse, we will have different [attitudes] toward bed."

Created for Connection - Dr. Sue Johnson, p.202

Do you write any? The art of writing is much like reading. People either love doing it or hate it outright. Writing is a great intervention we use in the counseling space.

It might seem simple - or stereotyped to the teenage years - but the process of putting thoughts to paper is incredibly therapeutic. If you find yourself feeling lost in your thoughts, try finding a book and writing out whatever comes first!

We'd love to help you with that writing process; reach out anytime!

"As we faced the reality of our beautiful little humans expressing their displeasure, it occurred to us - maybe we're not loving them in the way that they need!"

My background in clinical counseling is paired with a pastoral approach. Clients often come to counseling with incredibly heavy things - I think those heavy things have a big impact on their inner self. It creates a crisis of identity, direction, and purpose. You can't separate those things from the idea of someone's soul.

Being able to work with clients on a soul-focus or religious space is a helpful and comforting aspect of my counseling. I meet clients where they are when it comes to spiritual things. I've worked with atheists, agnostics, protestants, catholics, and multi-god believers. We incorporate as much or as little spiritual emphasis as my clients want in counseling. In short, I'm a professional that's not timid of talking about God, but intentional and aware with how clients might talk and feel about Him.

"We should enhance our strengths instead of [only] strengthening our weaknesses...Our strengths make us. We are where we are in large measure because of who we are. Yet, we ignore our strengths in order to improve our weaknesses."

"But let someone really listen,...and give me a chance to talk more about what's troubling me, and I begin to feel less upset, less confused, and more able to cope with my feelings and my problem."

"Emotion comes from the Latin word {emovere}, to move.
We talk of being moved by our emotions, and we are moved when those we love show their deeper feelings to us."

Counseling helps people in a lot of ways. One of those ways is through what professionals call the "empty chair" technique.

Therapists help clients mentally grow by having a conversation with a person of interest while picturing them in the empty chair in the room. It allows people to process abuse, neglect, and even their own self-worth.

If this sounds like something that might help in your life, we have an empty chair waiting for you!
