💡 What an incredible lineup of sessions so far today at !

We were inspired by Rebel Health, where Susannah Fox and a patient-led panel showed us how innovation and resilience are reshaping healthcare from the ground up. We explored the future of artificial intelligence in audiology, learning how predictive, generative, prescriptive, and agentic AI can responsibly enhance patient care with Lucy Orr-Ewing. We gained fresh insights from optometry, dentistry, and veterinary medicine, discovering how lessons from other professions can strengthen private practice, sustainability, and patient-centered outcomes in audiology.

Today reminded us just how we can be when we combine patient voices, cutting-edge technology, and cross-disciplinary wisdom. 🙌👂

The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) is proud to announce its endorsement of the Responsible Use of AI in Healthcare (RUAIH) guidance, developed by The Joint Commission and the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI). This guidance offers a high-level framework to ensure artificial intelligence (AI) is integrated into clinical, administrative, and operational settings with patient safety, privacy, and ethical considerations at the forefront.

By embracing this framework, ADA joins other healthcare leaders in advancing innovation while upholding strong safeguards. The RUAIH guidance emphasizes key areas such as governance, risk and bias assessments, ongoing quality monitoring, and provider training—critical steps to balance technological progress with accountability. ADA has already incorporated these practices into its updated Audiology Practice Standards, underscoring its commitment to advancing the profession while protecting patients and strengthening healthcare systems.

ADA

Background The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) was founded by nine practitioners in 1977, as the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists, to foster and support the professional dispensing of hearing aids by qualified audiologists in rehabilitative practices. Later, in 1988, ADA developed the concept of the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree and provided much of the energy behind the movement for the transition of audiology to a doctoring healthcare profession. This goal, as well, has been largely met, as the Au.D. is now the minimum degree for audiology practice offered by educational institutions in the United States. In recognition of these important accomplishments, ADA Fellow members voted for an organizational name change to the Academy of Doctors of Audiology in 2006.

Today, ADA offers programming and support to those audiologists and students who are or who desire to be autonomous practitioners in whatever setting they choose to practice. In particular, ADA's mission emphasizes practice ownership. ADA is focused on helping audiologists succeed in all aspects of practice, with a particular emphasis on the business of audiology.

Audiology Practices, ADA's quarterly magazine, features articles that focus on issues confronting audiologists in autonomous practice. And, true to its mission, ADA continues to advocate for audiologists owning their profession through practice ownership, by offering mentoring assistance to ADA members, potential members and audiology students.
