Ever heard of “text neck”? It’s the neck pain and stiffness that comes from looking down at phones or devices for too long.

Why it matters: Tilting your head forward puts major strain on your neck and spine, leading to discomfort, headaches, and long-term posture issues.

Tips to protect your spine:
• Hold devices at eye level
• Take breaks to stretch + reset posture
• Use supportive seating for alignment

If pain or stiffness continues, the specialists at UK Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine are here to help.

October is Physical Therapy Month, and we’re celebrating the sports rehabilitation specialists who help athletes of all levels get back in the game. At UK HealthCare Orthopaedics, our PT team works with patients to restore movement, build strength, and return them safely to the activities they love.

Dr. Richard Watson, Supervisor in the Department of Sports Rehabilitation, shared what makes this work so meaningful:

“For me, physical therapy is all about helping patients get back on their feet—literally and figuratively. I love working alongside them to restore their function, resolve pain, and achieve their therapy goals. When patients begin treatment, they often come in at a low point, facing challenges and uncertainty. But by the end of their therapy journey, it’s ‘high five’ time—celebrating progress, renewed function, and back to play. That transformation is why I’m passionate about PT every single day.”

Join us in thanking Dr. Watson and our entire PT team for keeping athletes moving and helping patients return to play stronger than ever.
