Sometimes, the way an athlete responds under pressure in sports mirrors how they’ve learned to respond to stress, failure, frustration, or adversity in other areas of life too.

That doesn’t make them “weak” or “mentally tough.” It just reminds us that athletes are whole people, not robots separated into categories.

How someone handles discomfort, reacts to coaching, or navigates pressure often shows up everywhere — including competition.

Over the years, my experiences in sports, psychology, and military social work have slowly changed the way I view athlete development.

The more I coach, the harder it becomes to separate the mental and physical sides of performance.

Confidence affects movement. Communication affects confidence. Pressure affects decision making. Understanding affects adjustment. Environment affects curiosity.

I’m not claiming to have all the answers, and I firmly believe athletes should learn from as many people and perspectives as possible.

But this idea of performance being interconnected has heavily shaped the way I coach and what I’ve been building behind the scenes with Elite Minds.

One athlete. One tendency. Two different skills.

And here’s the thing to note, Ashlyn Norton (2028) is actually one of my most consistent barrelers.

As a curveball pitcher, that early turn shows up in her swing sometimes with over-rotation, rolling early, pulling off etc.

No need to add more mechanics just change the feel:

⭐️ Screwball finish ⭐️

And that cleaned it up for her

here’s the truth, not every adjustment sounds the same from every coach. Sometimes one cue isn’t even about the body part you’re trying to change but it produces the movement you need.

I’m always listening for what they feel and speaking a language that makes it click.

Bring awareness to their tendencies and see them develop the ability to adjust in real time. ‼️ Read. That. Again.

60 min games 🤯
Jam packed with teams 🤯
This culture leads to low-confidence athletes.

How?
No real full games —-> promotes small rosters —> no competition to earn a spot —> ring chasing—> Watered down teams —> perfectionist athletes —> prolonged slumps

It’s all related.

One of my goals is to help athletes, coaches and parents unlearn this dynamic and get back to the bigger picture.

Give kids a space where they can fail. Allow them learn how to play for something bigger than their own success.

Families and coaches should trust the process instead of chasing stats and outcomes.

And with this mindset over time… you’ll notice players will start to play more freely.

That’s when the results improve naturally

When an athlete is committed to learning, mistakes just simply don’t hit the same.

They become information ——- not emotion. Emotions get processed through a lens of growth.

That’s what it means to be a student of the game.

If you’re a player or know a player that needs this mindset, hit follow and stay tuned💪

The athletes who “catch on quickly” still put in the work.

It’s not about changing everything — it’s about refining what’s already there and understanding feel vs. real.

What if I told you there’s a deeper way to help an athlete adjust?

The same tendencies show up everywhere.

Hitting. Pitching. Throwing.

Can you spot a tendency in each of these that might connect to another movement in their game?

Sometimes it’s one small movement that, once refined, improves everything.

And it’s the same on the mental side. One shift in how they think can change how they respond to everything.

It’s all related. And it doesn’t take perfection to improve.

It takes the right kind of repetition.

What mental muscle should they be training?
What physical tendencies should they reinforce? — or learn to adjust?

That’s where the whole game starts to come together.

That’s why I don’t coach skills in isolation — I coach the athlete as a whole. 🧘🏻‍♀️

A lot of athletes think being “elite” means constant success.

It doesn’t. It’s the ability to show up, adapt, and keep going… even when it’s not working yet.

That’s what you’re seeing here.

It’s not always a skill issue - it’s how an athlete responds when something isn’t working.

Can they take feedback, stay neutral, and actually apply it?

Because that shows up everywhere in life, on and off the field. Not just in one swing or one throw, but in how they move, adapt, compete, carry themselves, and most importantly - how they make decisions.

It’s all connected.

More on that coming soon 🙌

Hey y’all! 👋 for those who are new here, and for those who have been part of this for a while…

I’m Nichole, and what I care about most is helping athletes grow in a way that actually sustains.

Over time, I’ve seen how much of this game goes beyond just physical skill — it’s in the adjustments, the mindset, the consistency, and the way athletes learn to handle adversity in softball and in life.

I’ve been working on something new that brings all of that together in a more intentional way.

Really excited to share what’s coming soon 🤍

I’ve been keeping a secret…

Big changes are coming ‼️

In between coaching, motherhood, & lessons, I’ve been building something better.

A unique experience for athletes who are ready.

Not just reps, but true development. Because the game rewards those who can adapt.

Stay tuned 💪
