It is important to know the proper way to handle oils so you can get the best usage out of them and also keep you and your loved ones safe. Please if you have a serious condition, talk to your doctor before using oils! Here are a few general safety tips to keep in mind:
1) Store oils out of reach of young children.
2) Oils should be stored in a cool, dark place.
3) Avoid putting oils in your eyes. If you get oil in your eye, never flush it with water; this could make it worse! Rinse your eye with a carrier oil.
4) Never put oils directly into your ear canal! You can apply it to a cotton ball and then place the cotton ball in the canal.
5) In the event of an accident or emergency (like if you feel a burning or hot sensation where you applied a hot oil (example of hot oils: peppermint, thieves, oregano)), apply a natural carrier oil to dilute the oil, then wipe it away with a cloth or tissue. Continue applying carrier oil as needed. Call emergency contacts if needed.
6) Citrus oils can cause photo-sensitivity. Be careful when going in the sun after applying citrus oils topically.
7) Always use glass or stainless steel containers with photo-sensitive oils (citrus-based oils, as well as some blends that contain citrus). If stored in plastic, some oils will negatively affect it and degrade it.
8) Most Young Living oils are safe to use during and after pregnancy. Exercise caution and always consult your health care provider when starting any health program.
9) Exercise caution when applying new oils.
10) Read the labels, dilute if needed
