Liberty City Council has approved a one-month pilot program with Gest Carts Kansas City for a door-to-door, on-demand transportation service starting TODAY, October 1.

Book a ride by calling the GEST service line: 816-919-4378. Service in Liberty will be available Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Rides are $3, per person, per one-way trip, and the service area covers the City limits of Liberty, other participating cities (currently Gladstone) and medical facilities across the northland.

This service will continue cost-effective transportation for Liberty residents after the IRIS contract ended on Sept.30. GEST rides are focused on workforce transportation and helping seniors and others get to needed appointments and other errands. This will help fill a gap in local service between the Liberty Access Bus and commercial rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft.

You can find the full press release announcement online here » https://libertymissouri.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=5339
The GEST website with Liberty information and FAQs will be available in the coming days.

At tonight's Regular Session meeting the City Council approved a land transfer donation of two tracts from Missouri Dept. of Conservation. The City will pay MDC $10 for each property.

The 65-acre tract known as Walnut Woods Conservation Area is located adjacent to Stocksdale Park.

The 42-acre tract known as Rush Creek Conservation Area is located adjacent to Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary and the City-owned Brian Court property. The Park Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with MLTNS for future coordinated use and maintenance of the Rush Creek property at its September meeting.

The Council also approved Land Management Plans for both properties to ensure they will be preserved as a natural wildlife corridor and remain open to the public.

MDC approached Liberty, MO Parks & Rec with the proposed land transfer in 2024 as they had limited future funding to maintain both areas, but could potentially fund cost-share grants in the future if the property was owned by the City.

More details about the land transfer and partnership moving forward is available as a part of the Action Report from the meeting packet (item P on the agenda) - https://libertymo.portal.civicclerk.com/event/382/files/agenda/1609

Thank you to everyone who came out to our "After-Hours with Nickel & Suede" event last month!

Kilee Nickels, founder of Nickel & Suede, shared her inspiring journey of building the brand from the ground up. She spoke about the challenges she faced in starting the business and the lessons learned along the way. We were happy to have both business owners and LPS students in attendance to hear Kilee's entrepreneurial journey.

The event also included a behind-the-scenes tour of the Nickel & Suede headquarters, where products are designed, produced, and distributed. Thank you to Kilee & Nickel and Suede for hosting and to our Network 53 Intern Ava for helping us plan such a fun event!
