It was a wonderful morning at Gilda's Club Kansas City Board Retreat representing The University of Kansas Cancer Center. I am very appreciative to Dr. Ronald Chen for recommending me to fill his position and undertake this important responsibility. For anyone who knows Dr. Chen, I have immense shoes to fill. I look forward to joining this exemplary team to expand and optimize the outreach and support efforts of the organization for and their families in the area and beyond under the direction of the amazing and visionary Executive Director Megan Hunter.

Thank you to Jeff Hall for interviewing me regarding recent legislative wins in breast imaging and targets for 2026. We’ve had some wonderful success recently, and that’s a testament to so many who care so much about access to care for our patients. Our work is far from over, and we will continue to march on at the state and federal level so we can strive to save the most lives and life years saved!

Sincerest gratitude to Emily Pritchard of KY3 News for raising awareness during her recurring Buddy Check 3 segment, most recently shining a light on the importance of breast density and supplemental screening in those with dense breasts in the detection of . Although we still have work to do in and many other states to ensure all women with dense breasts, regardless of risk, are covered by insurance, contact your local breast imaging center to see what supplemental screening options exist as well as cost. We will continue to advocate for insurance coverage of these lifesaving exams without co-pay or deductible.

It was an honor to be interviewed by Erica Sloan, Senior Health Writer at SELF Magazine, about the important topic of young women with . My overarching message to young women is get risk assessed by age 25 to see if earlier and heightened imaging surveillance is warranted and if something feels off, listen to your body! Please schedule an appointment with a breast imaging center who can perform a proper evaluation.
