April is Alcohol Awareness Month 💙
This month is a reminder to pause and reflect on our relationship with alcohol and how it may be impacting our mental health, relationships, and daily life.
For many, alcohol can become a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or overwhelming emotions—but it’s important to check in with ourselves and our habits.
If you’ve ever questioned whether your drinking is supporting your well-being, you’re not alone. Talking with a therapist can help you better understand your relationship with alcohol, develop healthier coping strategies, and create goals that align with your needs.
Support is available, and change is possible.

Meet CCA Therapist– Wes Powell! 🎉
Wes is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with a master’s degree from the University of Kansas, where he also received his BA in Psychology. He is currently under the clinical supervision of John Clymore, LCSW. Wes takes a client-centered, solutions-focused approach to therapy. This empowers clients to create and move toward their own self-determined goals through building insight, developing skills, and living into one’s values. During his time in graduate school, he developed experience in crisis intervention working as a crisis counselor for the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline. Since then, he has built on those skills by becoming EMDR trained and engaging in the study and practice of mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Wes's favorite self-care activities include playing guitar, video games, laughing, and spending time with loved ones.

📢 Blog Alert! 🎲🧸
Take a few minutes today to read our latest blog:
“Child-Centered Play Therapy: What Is It, How Does It Work, and What to Expect” by Jamie Visser, LMSW!
Children don’t always have the words to express what they’re feeling, but they do have play. Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) uses play as a child’s natural language to help them process emotions, experiences, and challenges in a safe, supportive environment.
In this blog, Jamie explores how CCPT allows children to lead the session while the therapist provides a consistent, accepting space for expression and growth. Through play, children can build emotional awareness, improve regulation, and develop confidence and problem-solving skills.
Understanding what to expect from play therapy can help caregivers feel more confident in the process and better support their child’s healing journey. When children feel seen, heard, and understood—even without words—meaningful change can happen.

As a therapist that works primarily with children and youth, I am often asked bycaregivers if their children “talked” to me about their problems during our sessions. CCA recognizes International Asexuality Day on April 6th. 💜
This is a day dedicated to increasing awareness, building community, and advocating for individuals who identify on the asexual spectrum. Asexuality is a valid sexual orientation. People who identify as asexual (or “ace”) may experience little to no sexual attraction, and each person’s experience is unique. Asexual individuals can have meaningful relationships, experience romantic attraction, and live full, connected lives — just like anyone else. At Clinical Counseling Associates, we are committed to creating affirming spaces where all identities are respected and supported. Mental health care should always be inclusive, compassionate, and free from assumptions. If you or someone you love identifies as asexual, know that your identity is real, valid, and worthy of understanding.

Clinical Counseling Associates Sheena Kirkendoll (CEO & Liberty Chamber Board Member) and Meg O’Connor (HR Operations Manager) attended the Liberty Chamber event Rise & Lead. ✨💙 CCA Spring Quarterly Social Event 💙✨
Our team at Clinical Counseling Associates had an incredible time volunteering for our Spring Quarterly Social Event! This year, we partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities to prepare a meal for families staying there.
Ronald McDonald House provides a “home away from home” for families with children receiving medical care, helping ease the burden during some of life’s most challenging moments. We were honored to play a small role in supporting these families through a warm, home-cooked meal.
This event was not only a meaningful way to give back to our community, but also a great opportunity for team building and connection outside of the office. 💛

💙 CCA Service Spotlight: Family Therapy 💙
Families experience seasons of change, stress, and growth. At Clinical Counseling Associates, we’re highlighting Family Therapy, a service designed to help families strengthen relationships, improve communication, and navigate challenges together. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦✨
Family therapy focuses on understanding and improving family dynamics that may be contributing to distress or conflict within the home. Our therapists work with families to create a supportive space where each member can feel heard, understood, and respected. 💬🤝
✨ Family Therapy is offered by several of our trained clinicians across CCA locations. ✨
Family therapy can be helpful for families experiencing:
• Conflict or communication challenges at home
• Major life transitions
• Grief and loss
• Adjusting to new family members (birth, adoption, marriage)
• Empty nest changes
• Trauma or stressful life experiences
• Addiction or other significant stressors
• And more
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family therapy helps families build healthier patterns, strengthen relationships, and develop tools for navigating life’s challenges together.
At CCA, our therapists create a safe and supportive environment where families can experience healing, connection, and long-term growth.

🚓💙 Rally for Resilience 💙🚑
Clinical Counseling Associates was honored to attend the Rally for Resilience fundraising event hosted by First Responders Support Team Midwest (FRST Midwest). FRST Midwest is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellness of first responders, providing critical resources, peer support, and advocacy for those who serve our communities every day.
This event was a powerful reminder of the importance of connection, community, and ongoing support for our first responder population. We were grateful for the opportunity to spend time with community partners, strengthen relationships, and stand alongside others who are committed to this mission.
At CCA, working with first responders is a core part of what we do. Our team is deeply committed to providing culturally competent, trauma-informed care to law enforcement, fire/EMS, dispatchers, and their families.
