Ever wondered what "exactly" a doula is???

What is a Doula?

💜 A doula is a nonclinical birth worker who can transform a woman’s birthing experience by providing physical, emotional, and educational support.
💜 Birth Doulas focus on supporting women through every step of the birth process, whether you’re choosing an unmedicated birth, using pain medication, or navigating a high-risk pregnancy. Doulas are trained to be a consistent presence, offering comfort, reassurance, and advocacy during labor and beyond.
💜 Labor doulas are your guide during the most intense moments of labor, giving you personalized care that adjusts to your unique needs. Whether you’re at home or in the hospital with medical staff, they work alongside the hospital staff as an added layer of support.
đź’ś A postpartum doula steps in after birth to help with the emotional and physical recovery process. From newborn care to assisting with your mental health, a postpartum doula ensures that you are nurtured during those critical first days and weeks after delivery.

Choosing doula care can lead to improved outcomes during and after birth, giving birthing individuals a sense of empowerment. With a doula by your side, you’re not just going through the motions of labor; you’re crafting a birthing where your voice is heard, your body is supported, and your heart is cared for.

Celebrating this milestone with the company I work with! I was honored to support TWO of the amazing moms who gave birth this week just 30ish hours apart!🩵🩷

February has been a busy month! We had 11 babies this month and 7 of them born in just 5 days. Our team has been so busy and they're all exhausted, but everyone got the support they needed.

February also brought baby 300 for our organization!

Doulas and midwives—they’re both amazing, but they’re not the same! 💜 A doula (like the ones here at Hope’s Embrace) is your emotional support, your guide, and your biggest cheerleader during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. We don’t deliver babies—that’s the midwife or doctor’s role—but we make sure you feel supported, informed, and empowered every step of the way.

It’s all about having a team that’s got your back. 🫶 Curious about how a doula can support you? We’d love to chat!

Today and every day, we remember the babies born sleeping, those carried but never held, those held that could not be taken home, and those taken home who could not stay. We remember them, always.

The lights outside of our Akron campus are blue and pink to mark Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

The reason OB’s love to say “once a c-section, always a c-section” is because they are absolutely terrified of uterine rupture.

Which rightfully so, uterine rupture is a very serious and dangerous emergency that can happen during birth.

However the risk of this ACTUALLY happening even after having a c-section is extremely low!

The risk of uterine rupture with 1 previous c-section is 0.51%, with 2 or even 3 prior c-sections the risk only goes up to 1.85%, that means a mama who has had 3 c-sections has a 98% chance of NOT having a uterine rupture!

Now I’m not one who loves statistics because they are almost always created in a way to favor big pharma, but these statistics right here are great for mamas who have had c-sections to see just how low the risk is of having a VBAC or even an HBAC.
