💧 Why Hydration Matters for 3D/4D Ultrasounds 💧

One of the most important things you can do before your 3D/4D ultrasound is drink plenty of water. Here’s why:

3D/4D ultrasound images rely on sound waves that travel best through amniotic fluid. The more fluid in front of baby’s face, the clearer and more detailed the images will be. If baby is pressed up against the placenta or uterine wall, the sound waves have to travel through tissue instead of fluid, which can result in blurry or cloudy images.

Also, remember: if we can’t see a good fluid pocket in front of baby’s face during the scan, it doesn’t always mean fluid is low. Sometimes baby is just in a tricky position. By staying well-hydrated, you give yourself the best chance for that perfect “magic pocket” of fluid to be where we need it—right in front of baby’s face!
