🚶‍♀️ Did you know there’s no such thing as a “proper gait”?

New research shows the “right” way to walk is different for everyone.

A Lancet Rheumatology study found that tiny changes in foot angle (just 5–10°) reduced knee pain as much as medication — and even slowed cartilage wear.

👉 Here’s how you can check your walk at home:
Use your iPhone Health app → check walking symmetry.

Look at your shoes → uneven wear = uneven stress.

Mirror walk → knees should track straight.

If pain is changing how you walk, don’t wait.

I wasn’t sure if my dog would eat Brussels sprouts… but now I think Charlie knows something most people don’t.

This week I roasted a tray of Brussels sprouts. As soon as they hit the plate, Charlie came over—and yes, she loved them.

So I did a little research. And it turns out, Brussels sprouts are one of the best foods you can eat to lower cholesterol naturally.

They’re packed with:
✔️ ALA omega-3s – rare in the plant world
✔️ Soluble fiber – helps sweep cholesterol out of your system
✔️ Antioxidants – like quercetin and kaempferol
✔️ Vitamin K – which supports your arteries
🥄 Just half a cup of cooked sprouts = 2 grams of soluble fiber
📉 And just 5–10 grams daily could lower LDL cholesterol by 5–11 points.

📚 Here’s the article that breaks it all down. https://www.eatingwell.com/best-vegetable-to-lower-high-cholesterol-11758820

They may not be flashy, but these little green powerhouses deserve a spot on your plate.

💬 Who do you share your Brussels sprouts with?

Tag them, tease them, or toast them—we’re making sprouts cool again.

Adding more vegetables to your plate offers a whole host of benefits, including lower cholesterol. Read on to find our top veggie for lowering high cholesterol.

New evidence is in — and it confirms what many chiropractors have long suspected: forward head posture can make or break your recovery from neck pain. A 2025 study published in Scientific Reports found that each unit increase in forward head posture (sagittal head translation) reduced the odds of conservative care success by 13% or more. “She Barks. She Heals. And Now, Science Backs Her Up.”
🧬🐶 What if your child’s best defense against eczema… had four legs and a tail?

She barks at the door. Greets every patient. Sometimes naps mid-shift. And now, she might be protecting kids from eczema.

A brand-new study in Allergy (2025) showed that early exposure to dogs may suppress the genetic risk for eczema, especially in kids with a high-risk IL7R gene variant.

Researchers found that dog exposure boosts IL-10—an anti-inflammatory immune signal—and literally changes how the body responds to allergens.

It’s science catching up to what we feel when we’re around a good dog: something shifts inside us.

Charlie’s been a greeter, a comforter, and a tiny health hero. And to me, she represents the kind of healing that can’t be bottled—but can be felt.

📍 Want to experience that kind of care, with or without fur?

I’m Dr. Steve Segal. I’m in Libertyville. I adjust spines. I get results. I listen. And yes, I bring my dog to work.

📍From Cape Cod Weddings to Limping German Shepherds… This Is My Life as a Chiropractor.

Last week, I was out of town celebrating my nephew’s wedding on the Cape.

This past Wednesday, May 28th, was my first day back in the office.

My first appointment? A couple who had just wrapped up their daughter’s wedding in Chicago. Instead of heading straight home, they stayed one more day—just so they could be on my table.

That’s not just loyalty. That’s love, trust, and a reminder of why I still do what I do after 36 years.

A few hours later, I get this message:
“I’ve got a goofy question. Our German Shepherd is barely walking. Think you could come over and check if he’s got something dislocated?”

Not a joke. Not for them. For their 100-pound dog.

They even sent a video of his gait so I could evaluate him before the house call. https://lnkd.in/gWTPAcJ9

I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.
But here’s what I can say:
✅ I’ve built a life where patients trust me with their pain…
✅ …and with their family.
✅ Sometimes even with their dogs.

This is what it means to be a chiropractor’s chiropractor.

Not just serving the body—but being part of people’s lives.
And honestly? I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

26 Years Later—Still Doing the Work

Back in 2009, I filmed a video with a patient named David.
He had been bent over, in pain, and stuck for almost 18 months before walking into my office.

He wasn’t a quick fix. He wasn’t a “3-visit miracle.”

He was the kind of patient who needed time, attention, and a plan with a purpose.

And he followed it.

Last week—unsolicited—I got this message from David:

“I just finished my morning exercises and it occurred to me how grateful I am to you… I’ll turn 88 next month and feel pretty good thanks to you.”

No agenda. No request. Just a message of gratitude from a man who kept showing up for himself.

Not only is he still moving well—he’s still doing the plan we started decades ago.

That’s what this is all about.

📽 Here’s the video from April 2009: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCZm6i_Fdzw

This is what happens when the care is honest, the patient is committed, and the relationship is built on trust—not volume.

I don’t treat conditions. I help people get their lives back.

🔍 New Research: Muscle Health and Spine Stability—Why It Matters More Than You Think

A groundbreaking May 2025 Spine study shows that patients with unstable lumbar spondylolisthesis often present with weaker multifidus muscles and greater alignment mismatches.

➡️ Those with stable spines had stronger paraspinal muscles, less slippage, and better spinopelvic balance (PI-LL alignment).
➡️ The multifidus muscle at L4-L5 stood out as a key differentiator in stability.

💡 As a chiropractor, this reinforces what I see daily: improving muscle health and alignment can be crucial to managing spine stability without surgery.

🧠 If you or someone you care about struggles with chronic low back issues, especially spondylolisthesis, reach out. A better approach might begin with a better understanding.

🎉 36 years in practice.

Not bad for an ADHD kid who graduated near the bottom of Sharon High’s class of ’73.

In this short video, I reflect on the road that’s led from martial arts injury…
to chiropractor…
to adjusting to pro athletes, actors, rock stars, and over 50 three-generation families.

I’ve never believed in cookie-cutter care or 12-visit sales scripts.
From day one, my approach has been simple:
✅ Adjust on the first visit
✅ Focus on fast, affordable relief
✅ Treat every patient like a family member
✅ Give people tools to heal and stay out of pain

Along the way, I’ve been in four weddings, hugged at grocery stores, and referred to as “my guy” by both patients and peers.

I’ve always aimed to be a chiropractor’s chiropractor — the one other doctors trust with their loved ones.

If you’ve ever texted me, referred someone, or just wished me well — thank you.

I’m still showing up. Still adjusting. Still listening. Still learning.
