Inflammatory breast cancer can appear as a swollen, red enlarged breast and not a lump that is easier to detect with a mammogram.

🕺🏻GET DOWN ON IT🕺🏻

When Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland sang and danced to Mario’s “Let Me Love You” in training camp a few months ago, it was a light moment that showed the joy behind the game.

During today’s visit to the Cancer Survivorship Center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, he brought out his moves again, this time alongside 11 cancer patients and survivors in a Zumba class celebrating healing, movement and heart.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Loveland also presented a $25,000 donation from the Chicago Bears to support breast cancer and survivorship initiatives at Advocate Health Care.

Thank you to Loveland and the Chicago Bears for helping remind us all that every beat, every step and every show of strength can inspire someone to keep moving forward. 🩷

It’s a boy and she said “yes!” 🩵💍

Moments after the birth of her first son at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Challis received a joyful surprise – a marriage proposal, printed on her baby’s onesie.

Challis and Denzel first met more than a decade ago while they were in high school at Mother McAuley and Marist high schools, but they lost touch when Denzel’s family moved.

3 years ago, mutual friends put the couple back in touch and they fell in love, eventually preparing for the birth of their son, Ace.

With some help from the nurses, baby Ace quickly got into his first outfit just after being born, a onesie that said, “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?”

“I looked over and he was on one knee,” Challis said. “I was shocked.”

The couple said they’re grateful for the team at Christ not only for the excellent labor and delivery care, but for helping with the surprise engagement. Congratulations!

Advocate Health Care continued its goal to hire within its community at a recent recruiting event at Advocate Trinity Hospital. More than 75 attendees were prescheduled and had interviews with hiring managers while hundreds more connected with talent acquisition to explore careers and continue the interview process.

These community-based recruitment efforts and a goal to hire 1,000 new teammates in the next three years are part of Advocate’s $1 billion investment to build a new model of healthcare on the South Side of Chicago. The investment, which was driven by community input, includes $25 million focused on workforce development and hiring.

The event was aimed at hiring registered nurses and physical therapists for Advocate’s home health program. Advocate Health at Home clinicians help patients who are recovering from an illness or injury or managing a chronic condition from the comfort and convenience of their home.

Recruiters were also seeking potential imaging professionals, stationary engineers and inpatient transport, food services and environmental services teammates at Advocate Trinity and South Suburban hospitals, as well as Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Chicago Marathon weekend is almost here! We’ve got tips to help you prepare in the final 48 hours. 🏅

The hours before race day are crucial, not for pushing harder, but for preparing smartly.

Dr. Zachary Domont, orthopedic surgeon at Advocate Condell Medical Center and a fellow runner himself, shares what you should be focusing on to arrive at the start line strong and ready.

🏃‍♀️Keep your joints and muscles loose with gentle movement:
A 10 to 20-minute shakeout run or brisk walk helps lubricate your joints and activate supporting muscles without causing fatigue or strain.

💪 Support muscle recovery through hydration and nutrition:
Consistent hydration aids in flushing out inflammation. Eating balanced meals rich in carbohydrates and lean protein supports muscle glycogen stores and tissue repair.

😴 Prioritize sleep for muscle repair and inflammation control:
Quality rest is critical in the final days before the race to reduce inflammation and prepare muscles and connective tissues for the physical stress ahead.

“These final hours are about setting your body up for success,” says Dr. Domont. “Small, consistent steps like light movement, steady hydration and rest can make a big difference on race day.”

As the official health care partner of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, we wish all runners, volunteers and spectators a safe and memorable marathon weekend. Let’s make every mile count!
