Nation Women Coaches Day 3/7

Women belong in coaching.

Representation matters. Women Coaches bring lived experiences, perspective, diversity, and compassion, which help athletes be seen and heard.

When girls see women leading, they can see what is possible.

When one wins, we all win.

WORDS MATTER.

If you don’t think sexism in sport is real, talk to a female athlete or coach you love. 🫶🏽

Women’s sports are still fighting—for RESPECT equitable pay, coverage, and resources.

“You know I’ll have to invite the women’s team too.”

“We don’t charge for the girls’ game because only parents show up.”

“You know what girls are like… hanging around, doing their makeup.”

“All smiles and swishing ponytails.”

“She must be on her period.”

MY PERSONAL FAVORITE “Boys will be boys.”

Words like these normalize sexism in sport.

We are not an afterthought, a joke, or grateful to be included.

We are FEMALES IN SPORT, and we will keep shining a light and challenging the status quo until things change.

NEW PODCAST ALERT

REDs = your body in “low power mode.” ⚡️ Female athletes need fuel to perform, recover, and thrive — not just push through.

Quick facts:
• Girls drop out of sports at nearly twice the rate of boys in adolescence — supportive environments matter.
• Missing periods = your body asking for attention. 🩺

Fueling tips:
• Eat every 3–4 hrs
• Athletes need more calories than non-athletes
• Rest days still need fuel
• Include carbs • protein • healthy fats
• Pack snacks for easy refuel
• Trial & error = find your groove

Social media check:
Unfollow accounts that don’t serve you.

Bottom line: Notice changes, ask with curiosity, and refer to experts. No one should run on low power. Let’s keep athletes fully charged. 🔋

Sheahen Dowling x PEAC — Train Like a Girl 🎙️

From multi-sport kid to Trinity HS (Class of 2017) → FGCU walk‑on → scholarship winner → Special Assistant to Coach Karl Smesko (Atlanta Dream). Sheahen shares how parents, risk‑taking, and accountability shaped her journey — and why athletes must build identity beyond sport. 🏀

Key takeaways:
• Walk on, work hard, earn it. 💪

• Coaches matter: “If you can’t do the academic side, you can’t do the sport side.” — Karl Smesko 📚

• Life skills > highlight reels (internships, independence, everyday skills). 🔧

• Stay in sport at any level — friendships, leadership, growth. 🤝

• Push for equity — WNBA players get ~22.8% of league revenue vs NBA ~49–51%. ⚖️

Bring on 2026👊🏽

Girls In Sport is not just having a moment; it is a MOVEMENT.

➡️The growth and lessons of 2025 were made possible by PEAC’s girl power! Our interns are using their talents to enhance our app, podcast, and raise social awareness. They recognize the significant strides made for females in the sports arena while understanding that we still have a long way to go.

➡️The professional connections at PEAC continue to inspire me. The energy and passion these professionals share through the podcast, app, and networking demonstrate our collective commitment to pushing for equity in sports science, nutrition, period health, equipment (including sports bras), pay, job opportunities, body image, and injury prevention.

➡️We need to encourage girls to stay in sports longer and reduce high school dropout rates. It’s essential to have more female coaches at the high school level, creating an environment where girls feel comfortable discussing topics like periods, breast development, body image, and the social stigma surrounding sports. Additionally, we need more females specializing in strength training for girls and further research focused on enhancing performance while reducing injury rates.

2026
The focus for 2026 is to get our app and podcast into the hands of high school athletes, coaches, and caretakers. We believe that the conversations sparked here will promote body positivity, increase participation rates, and enhance the joy of sports, ultimately improving performance.

A sincere thank you to all who are willing to jump in and contribute—your support has made me a better person and professional.

Women I have had the pleasure of connecting with this year🫶🏽
