Nobody talks about perimenopause. These numbers say we should.

95% of women going through the menopausal transition experience symptoms. Not one or two, but an average of six. And it’s not just hot flashes.

85% report crushing fatigue.

Around 80% deal with sleep disruption, brain fog, and unexplained weight changes.

Over 70% experience anxiety, depression, or mood swings that seem to come out of nowhere.

Here’s what makes it worse: 34% of women with symptoms aren’t even diagnosed. They’re told it’s stress, aging, or “just a phase.”

Meanwhile, the average transition lasts 7 years and for women of color that number jumps to 10.

This isn’t a minor inconvenience. Menopause symptoms cost the U.S. economy $26.6 billion a year in lost productivity. One in five women waits over a year before a healthcare provider even identifies what’s happening.

But here’s the part that gives us hope: 90% of women report relief within 2 months of proper treatment. Two months. That means the gap isn’t in solutions. It’s in awareness, access, and conversation.

Perimenopause can start as early as your mid-30s. It affects your sleep, your brain, your joints, your confidence, and your daily life. It deserves to be talked about, LOUDLY.

If this resonates, share it with someone who needs to hear it and book a complimentary 15-min consultation at www.MedLogicMD.com with Dr. Lauren Towle.

As a functional medicine doctor and a woman; here’s what I need you to know about perimenopause.

Dr. Lauren Towle sees this at MedLogic Primary Care every single week.

A woman sits across from me and says, “I don’t feel like myself anymore and I can’t explain why.”

She’s been to other providers. She’s been told her labs are “normal.” She’s been handed a prescription for anxiety or told to sleep more.

But nobody asked about her cycle. Nobody mentioned perimenopause.

Here’s what I tell my patients:
5 things I wish every woman knew before this phase catches her off guard. Swipe through…

It doesn’t wait until 50. I’m seeing hormonal shifts in women in their mid-30s. Irregular cycles, new anxiety, sleep patterns that suddenly stop working;these are often the earliest signals, not the exception.

It’s not just hot flashes. Brain fog, mood changes, skin shifts, stress sensitivity, fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix. Perimenopause is a full-system transition, and most women are never told that.

Your hormones aren’t on a slow decline; they’re on a rollercoaster. Estrogen doesn’t just quietly fade. It swings. That’s why one month feels manageable and the next feels completely unraveling.

Lifestyle is medicine. Consistent sleep, strength training, blood sugar balance, and nervous system support won’t replace medical care but in my clinical experience, they meaningfully change how this transition feels in your body.

And please hear me on this: You do not have to white-knuckle your way through it. Perimenopause is a physiological transition, not a test of willpower. You deserve a provider who listens, investigates, and partners with you on a plan that actually fits your body.

If you’ve been dismissed, gaslit, or told “it’s just stress” I want you to know that what you’re experiencing is real, it has a name, and there are options.

Save this post. Send it to your group chat. Tag the woman in your life who needs to hear this today.

isn’t just about the planet. It’s about us.

The same principles that restore the Earth…restore human health.

Regenerate the soil → nutrient-dense foodReduce toxins → lower inflammationProtect ecosystems → support microbiome diversity

Functional and integrative medicine operates on one core belief: the body is an ecosystem, not a machine.

And right now? Both ecosystems are under pressure.
Heal the soil.Heal the body.

Our team at MedLogic Primary Care is here to guide you.

Earth Day is a reminder that healing starts with nature.

In the latest MedLogic Primary Care blog, Dr. Jennifer Plotkin Ron MD, FACEP, ABOIM reflects on what nature teaches us about healing and it’s a perspective we can’t ignore.

The body, like the Earth, is not a machine. It’s an ecosystem.

We create the conditions for true healing, both inside the body and around us. This is the foundation of functional and integrative medicine: work with biology, not against it.

Take a few minutes to read this powerful reflection and see how nature continues to guide the future of medicine.

Happy Earth Day!

If you think intermittent fasting is just for weight loss, you’re missing the bigger picture. Research highlights something deeper. Fasting impacts:
• Gene expression
• Inflammation pathways
• Immune cell function
• Cellular repair systems

It’s influencing the root biology of disease. We’re talking about:
➡ Lower oxidative stress
➡ Improved DNA repair
➡ Better metabolic flexibility

“This is why I use IF consistently in practice…” says Dr. Jenn Ron, “because it works upstream, not just symptomatically.”

The future of medicine isn’t more intervention. It’s smarter biology.

Intermittent fasting is the management of meal consumption allowing the metabolic systems to rest and recover in between meals. Most common intermittent fasting schedules are 16:8 or 20:4 but you can start anywhere and work on your fasting tolerance overtime.

New research shows it may:✔ Enhance cancer treatment✔ Protect healthy cells✔ Increase cancer cell vulnerability

Why?Because fasting shifts the body into a completely different biological state:
* Lower insulin + IGF-1 (less fuel for tumors)
* Increased autophagy (cellular repair + cleanup)
* Stronger immune surveillance

This is where medicine is heading; not just treating disease, but changing the environment it depends on.

We don’t just fight cancer. We change the terrain and manage outcomes. We heal.

Dr. Lauren Towle, MedLogic’s Functional Medicine Doctor attended the Annual PLMI Clinical Mastery Conference this weekend learning from leaders like Dr. Jeffrey Bland who is pushing beyond symptom management into true brain resilience and recovery.

Dr. Towle’s primary take away are the continued shifts from treatment to prevention and lifestyle strategy.
Here’s are top 15 actions to take now:
• Prioritize nutrition and gut health
• Support education and cognitive engagement throughout life
• Detect and manage high LDL cholesterol early
• Address depression and hearing loss proactively
• Maintain a healthy weight and prevent diabetes
• Stay physically active
• Reduce alcohol consumption and smoking
• Protect brain health (helmets, injury prevention)
• Improve air quality and community environments
• Manage blood pressure (≤130 mmHg from age 40)
• Ensure access to vision and hearing care

Brain health isn’t driven by one factor; it’s the result of daily choices, environment, and access to care over time.

We don’t need to wait for symptoms to act. The opportunity is in what we do now.

On 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆, we’re reminded that true health is not created in moments of crisis; instead it’s built daily, long before disease takes hold.

In , , , and , the focus shifts from reacting to illness to understanding and optimizing the terrain in which disease develops.

This means looking beyond symptoms and asking deeper questions about metabolism, inflammation, immune resilience, environmental exposures, and lifestyle patterns.

Our team is passionate about finding the root-cause of underlying issues and guiding patients through daily healthy habits.

Hormones don’t just “go bad” overnight. They respond to stress, sleep, nutrition, inflammation, environmental exposures, and even how we process emotions.

You can optimize labs, supplement deficiencies, and chase numbers…
But if you’re not addressing the root cause, you’re managing symptoms not solving the problem. Imbalances often trace back to:
• Chronic stress and elevated cortisol
• Poor sleep and circadian disruption
• Gut health and inflammation
• Blood sugar instability
• Toxin exposure

This is where the conversation needs to shift.
Healing doesn’t come from adjusting a number on a lab report; it comes from understanding why the body is signaling imbalance in the first place.
