Have you ever noticed how grief feels in your body? There is a ton of interesting science behind how certain emotions show up physically. I believe we were divinely designed to use this knowledge to our advantage, but left unobserved, painful emotions can turn into chronic pain and illness.

The body is so intricately interwoven with the spirit that anything showing up physically has already impacted our spirit. And so the question becomes: what can we learn from our pain?

When my mom got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it was shortly after Dave’s mom had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It was also during all of the chaos and isolation of 2020, along with our cabin renovations. Oh, and Dave also broke his hip and was bedridden for weeks.

I felt so far beyond overwhelmed. I reached out as much as I could for support, counseling, reading recommendations…etc. But what I really wanted and needed was a structured support group.

What I found was that many grief support groups are exclusively for death. As I continued my search even after Dave’s mom passed, I was told that I could join a group to process her death, but that I was not welcome to discuss my mom because she is still living…WHAT!?

The last thing any one needs in a state of grief is to be told it’s not welcome. You should not have to censor your grief.

Is your heart fully OPEN?

A few ways you can tell if it’s not:
🕳️ Feeling stuck, stagnant or drained
🪫 Struggling to fully feel joy or energy
🚀 Lacking creativity, confidence, or motivation
💣 Resentment, self-righteousness and hatred can only survive in a heart that is shut down.

Being open-hearted does not mean feeling happy. In fact, remaining open means that you will get hurt. But open-heartedness is a healthy state of receptivity and surrender that allows you to feel pain but also let it move through. It’s the most fiery, sensitive, enthusiastic, genuine and gentle state of being. 😌

I built a few large window boxes the other day for the studio! I’ll be painting them in a similar fashion to my beehive boxes and supers. And then, I’m thinking some nice green perennials! Blue hostas? Plus probably some zinnias or trailing ivy?

Many of us struggle with grief and don’t even fully realize what’s at the root of our feelings. We mostly associate grief with death, but it can be the loss of an identity, a dream never realized, or more recently in 2020: global trauma. We often even subconsciously take on other’s grieving as we love them; we may experience their pain as our own.

In my upcoming Grief Relief series, we’ll be discussing many types of grief and perhaps unearthing previously unidentified losses. Sometimes just the very act of being able to articulate your emotions or put your finger on a specific sense in your body can help shift it.

Most importantly, we will be gaining:
🤝Meaningful connection to one another
🌿Grounding in nature
🧠 Shared wisdom and practical suggestions
💙A refocusing, rest and renewal for our hearts

I’m circling back to my offering on grief support that needed a different time and venue. This 4 part series will now take place on Saturday afternoons at the BREATHTAKING farm! We will have access to the grounds as well as the barn depending on the weather. It will be the perfect little nest for restoration and time in nature.

This workshop is for those who are looking for ways to help process grief or loss. Each week, we will gather to share our stories, move, breathe, pray and connect. We will explore various ways to support the mind, nourish the body and awaken an aching soul. Please bring a journal, a yoga mat and/or blanket, along with any favorite props, pillows or cushions that might make you cozy.

Please know that all are welcome, so come as you are. Classes will be small and intimate and all are physically and spiritually inclusive.

In addition to loss and death, there are many different types of grief and ways that it manifests or becomes lodged within the human mind, body and spirit. Over the past few years (as many of us surely have) I have become very intimate with grief and for a time, was completely swallowed by it. I have learned a lot about when to move forward and when to turn inward.

No one is an expert on such a personal journey, but I’ve found that I can breathe through more than I feel capable of when I’m connected to God and surrounded by loving friends and community. I would like to help create that space for others.

This 3 part series was born out of my own voyage through heartache. Each week, we will gather to share our stories, move, breathe, pray and connect. We will explore various ways to support the mind, nourish the body and awaken an aching soul. Please bring a journal, a yoga mat and/or blanket, along with any favorite props, pillows or cushions that might make you cozy…maybe even some extra tissues. ;)

If you’re feeling lost, hopeless or paralyzed, please know that you are most certainly not alone. I know that being vulnerable takes a lot of courage. I encourage you to come out of hiding and join us.

These workshops are taught from my heart to yours. All are welcome, classes will be small and intimate and all are physically and spiritually inclusive.
