Parent Mentor -Allen County Educational Service Center The Parent Mentor Program is grant funded by The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. What does the Parent Mentor do?

It provides fee support and resources to families who have children with disabilities. Your Parent Mentor provides information and support to families about special education issues and assists school districts in receiving perspectives and input from special needs families. Services include:
- guiding families through the special education process;
- helping families understand their rights and responsibilities;
- providing resources and information to local school districts;
- providing resources and information to families, including information on educational laws and programming in their school districts;
- assisting families in engaging community resources;
- attending IEP meetings and other meetings at the request of the parent or school staff;
- provides and collaborates with other agencies to provide information sessions and workshops for both families and professionals;
- supports collaboration between families, community and schools to benefit students with disabilities.

We at the Allen County ESC are excited to be collaborating with Cornerstone of Hope, The United Way and Mercy Health St. Rita's to offer two upcoming FREE programs for families (professionals are welcome too). The first is scheduled for January 15th and will focus on parenting children and teens with anxiety and/or depression. The second will be on March 19th and will focus on big emotions and behaviors. Both workshops are from 6pm - 8pm at Mercy Health's Graduate Education Center. A light meal will be provided and registration is required. See the flyers below to sign up for one or for both!!
