Thanks to the many hospital staff, parents, community members and even firefighters 🧑🚒 who took time to read and have a bit of fun with the young scholars. 😃

The two Samaritan hospitals in Lincoln County were well represented at the annual Oregon Coast Community College Career & Technical Education Expo last week in Newport. 👩⚕️🏥 👨⚕️ Our staff chatted with college and high school students about the many career possibilities in health care and demonstrated some interesting medical procedures using training tools. Oh, and there was the popular photobooth, too, for the future surgeons, techs and other medical pros to show off their best smiles. 😷 😁

Blood donation is so important! Read about Megan and Ava's story and consider scheduling a donation in memory of Ava. 💜
🩸 January is National Blood Donation Month!
Megan Hosmer, one of our own at Samaritan Health Services, began donating blood after her stepdaughter Ava relied on frequent transfusions during cancer treatment. Inspired by Ava’s strength, Megan now donates regularly — and her blood has even helped patients right here in our community after making it's way to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
💪 You can make a difference too. Donating takes about an hour, can save a life and be done year round.
Pictured below is Ava Hosmer with Caesar the No Drama Llama Needs New Wheels. Ava loved animals and these two had a special connection.

How did Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital come to be? The way many great things do – through inspiration, determination and dedication!
In 1963, a small group of residents with a vision for medical care in our community studied the feasibility of building a hospital. It would serve residents and visitors in the area that would later become known as Lincoln City.
By a vote of the people in 1965, that committee became a formal group, the North Lincoln Health District Board of Directors. Their first task was to oversee the construction and operations of a hospital. Inspired by the board’s vision, citizens approved a tax levy which, along with a federal grant and the sale of general obligation bonds, provided funding to build a hospital. Six patients were admitted to the new hospital on the very first day it opened– Oct. 28, 1968.
With the rapid growth of the hospital and advances in health care, the North Lincoln Health District voted to sign a 30-year management agreement with Samaritan Health Services in 2000. Samaritan’s mission, “Building Healthier Communities Together,” acknowledges that Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital belongs to all residents of north Lincoln County.
Further contributing to our community’s wellbeing, the health district partnered with the City of Lincoln City, North Lincoln Hospital Foundation and Samaritan Health Services in 2011 to build a permanent home for the Samaritan Early Learning Center, a five-star rated childcare center for infants, toddlers and children.
In the fall of 2015, Samaritan Health Services and the health district announced plans to construct a new hospital and medical campus on the current site, replacing the nearly 50-year old building. The replacement hospital will be completed in the autumn of 2019 and the campus renovations finished by spring 2020. Visit samhealth.org/NewHospitalLincolnCity for details.
