This Wednesday January 4, at 6:15, join us for Celebrate Recovery in the sanctuary at the CLC. In addition to our worship and Open Share groups, we will hear a testimony of how God radically changed one person’s life.

Hearing someone’s story is so encouraging! The new year and all the talk about having a fresh start reminds me of how the Holy Spirit renews us each day. The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church:
“Therefore we do not lose heart.Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
Happy New year and we hope to see you this week.

The road to recovery is not meant for us to travel alone. We in the church need one another in order to grow, to become all we are meant to be as Christ followers.
Join us this Wednesday December 28 at 6:15 in the sanctuary, for Celebrate Recovery. We will learn about the importance of having a sponsor and or accountability partners in our individual recoveries. Proverbs 27:17 tells us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
How blessed we truly are to have companions to travel with us on this journey with Jesus! Hope to see you soon.

THIS WEEK at CELEBRATE RECOVERY
November 23, 2022

Starts at 6:15 PM: Worship, Testimony, Open Share groups and Fellowship Cafe

NO C.O.W. Dinner available this week, due to the holiday, and no Child Care either.

Psalm 9:1" I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of your wonderful deeds!"

Greetings CR Friends,
As a recap of our study of last week’s Sanity lesson, the T stood for TRUST. As we continue to work principle 2 in our lives, we learn to trust our higher power, Jesus Christ and our relationships with others. We start to make real friends in our share groups and in our church. It’s such a blessing to find spiritual brothers and sisters in Christ! These people are willing to walk beside us, investing in us on our journey to wholeness in Jesus.

This Thanksgiving, I am truly grateful for all of you who have enriched my life over the past few years as we walk our recovery road together. I pray God's rich blessing on YOU no matter what your situation this holiday. I pray that you will know the depth of His love for you and that you TRULY do matter to Him and to His work here in our CLC community.

So, come as you are this week and feel free to bring a friend to hear another super testimony!

God bless,

Megan

THIS WEEK at CELEBRATE RECOVERY

November 16, 2022

Starts at 6:15 PM: Worship, Sanity Lesson Open Share groups and dinner available for $5.00 pp at 5:30PM through CLC’s C.O.W. (Connect on Wednesday).

Dear CR Family,
This week, we will continue our study of Principle 2: earnestly believe that God exists, that we matter to Him and that He has the power to help us recover. It’s in this principle that we find the sanity to begin to stop making the same poor choices again and again. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we receive the strength to face the fears that, in the past, have caused us to fight, flee or freeze.
See you Wednesday!

Join us for Celebrate Recovery Wednesdays at 6:15 PM in the CLC sanctuary. Every week we have worship, a lesson or testimony and Open Share groups. Afterwards, hang out over refreshments at the Fellowship Café.

This Wednesday Nov. 9, we are blessed to have a special guest, Nance, give her dynamic testimony of how God radically changed her life through recovery. Her story will be an inspiration to you, giving you a glimpse of hope of where you can be as a result of applying godly principles to your life.

Join us for Celebrate Recovery Wednesdays at 6:15 PM in the CLC sanctuary. Every week we have worship, a lesson or testimony and Open Share groups. Afterwards, hang out over refreshments at the Fellowship Café.

This week, the lesson is on Hope, where we’ll begin to examine principle 2: Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him and that he has the power to help me recover. You know…it’s comforting to realize that in order to begin our recovery journey, we don’t have to have a huge amount of faith. In fact, the bible says we only need “faith as small as a mustard seed” for God to get busy effecting change, change that will begin to move our mountains of hurts, hang-ups and habits. If we’re only willing to utilize whatever faith we can muster in Jesus, our lives will be changed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

THIS WEEK at CELEBRATE RECOVERY
October 26, 2022

Starts at 6:15 PM: Worship, Testimony, Open Share groups and dinner available at 5:30PM for $5.00

Greetings CR Friends,

Vic brought us lesson 2 last week which is based on the word Powerless from Principle 1. “Realize I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.” Among the many things that were presented, we learned that some of us experience bouts of our minds dwelling on the “Only Ifs” (or If Only’s).

Only if he hadn’t walked out.

If only they hadn’t done away with my position.

If only I had stopped drinking.

Only if this. If only that.

Does this sound familiar? How we tend to wish for an alternate reality! We cannot change the past. But when we admit that we are powerless, we start walking in the truth, rather than living in the fantasy land of rationalization.

THIS WEEK, we will hear a testimony of how God radically changed one person’s life. Hearing someone’s story is helpful to us to give us a glimpse of hope of where we can be if we keep applying godly principles to our lives. We hear of God’s faithfulness and the progress that the person made over time as he or she worked their recovery.

See you Wednesday!

10/17/2022

Starts at 6:15 PM: Live Worship, Lesson: “Powerless”, open share groups & Dinner at 5:30PM

When I first heard lesson two for the first time, one thing in it struck me in particular. Like it says in the first principle, was it possible that my life had become unmanageable? My codependency flamed every time I became inconsolably sad when one of my children was depressed or distressed with a personal problem. I sensed there was something wrong with me, and I needed help to overcome the tendency to want to fix and control their lives. Gradually, I became willing to take this step in admitting that that area—in fact every area of my life had become unmanageable!

I shared David’s feelings that he expressed in Psalm 40:12 (TLB): “Problems far too big for me to solve are piled higher than my head. Meanwhile my sins, too many to count, have all caught up with me and I am ashamed to look up.”

Does this sound familiar? In Celebrate Recovery it is said that only when your pain is greater than your fear will you be ready to honestly take the first step, admitting that you are powerless and your life is unmanageable. Come and see for yourself, and join with others seeking a life free from their hurts, habits and hang ups.

Greetings CR friends,

NEXT MEETING: It is this Wednesday night October 12. It’ll be testimony night, and we’ll hear a powerful story from a person whose life was transformed by Christ, and how CR was a part of that. Dinner at 5:30 pm ($5.00 pp) then our large group meeting starts at 6:15 PM. Open Share groups start at 7:00 and our Fellowship Café opens at 7:45.

Due to the congestion the C.O.W. creates both at the CLC’s Kid Zone entrance and the main entrance, we encourage you to use the entrance on the very far right side of the building, nearest the “goose pond”. Directional signs will be in place.

Here’s a recap from this last week and the topic of Denial…

MASKS OF DENIAL… Before we can start to make real progress in our recovery, we need to examine ourselves to see what masks we have been relying on, to cover our hurts, habits or hang-ups. As soon as we brave removing our mask, handing it over to Jesus, our recovery begins…or begins again! It doesn’t matter if we’re new in recovery or have been in the process of working the steps and principles for years. Denial can rear it’s ugly head and return at any time, resurfacing as some new form of addiction or coping mechanism.

The Effects of Denial: (Notice the acronym)

Denial: Disables our feelings- denial plays games with our feelings, trying to convince us that our thoughts and feelings are mistaken. 2 Peter 2:19 (GNB) tells us: “… they themselves are slaves of destructive habits—for a person is a slave of anything that has conquered them.”

Denial: means Energy lost- A major side-effect of denial is anxiety. Anxiety causes us to waste precious energy dealing with past hurts and failures and the fear of the future. As you go through this program you will learn that it is only in the present that positive change can occur. Worrying about the past and dreading the future makes us unable to live and enjoy God’s plans for us in the present. Psalm 146:7 (TLB) says, “He frees the prisoners… he lifts the burdens from those bent down beneath their loads.”
Denial: Negates growth- We cannot grow in recovery until we are ready to step out of our denial into the truth. The Bible says, “They cried to the Lord in their troubles, and he rescued them! He led them from the darkness and shadow of death and snapped their chains” (Psalm 107:13–14, TLB).

Denial: Isolates us from God. It keeps us form trusting God to help us. Denial keeps us from accepting God’s love in our lives.

Denial: Alienates us from our relationships- when we are in denial we find it easy to hide from God and others… sometimes we hide what we are doing, sometimes what we are thinking. Stepping out of denial requires honesty about our lives. Truth, like surgery, may hurt for a while, but it cures.

Denial: Lengthens the pain- We have the false belief that denial protects us from our pain. In reality, denial allows our pain to fester and grow and to turn into shame and guilt. Denial multiplies our problems. God promises us in Jeremiah 30:17 (TLB), “I will give you back your health again and heal your wounds.”

Jesus tells us, “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”
(John 8:32).

Here’s a challenge for this week: Step out of your denial so you can step into Jesus’ unconditional love and grace and begin your healing journey of recovery.
Remember God is for you,and joins you in this process of growing in health and wholeness.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU WEDNESDAY NIGHT!
