Adaptive sports has lost a trailblazer.

Bob Hall made history at the 1975 Boston Marathon as the first officially recognized wheelchair finisher, helping transform what inclusion in endurance racing looks like today. His innovation in racing chair design and his advocacy for athletes with disabilities helped shape the growth of wheelchair racing around the world.

His legacy lives on in every athlete who lines up at the start line. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the adaptive sports community.

We’re honored to be this year’s recipient of the Lift Up Our Community initiative! And this chair…even more incredible in person 😍 Huge thanks to everyone who helped support NEDS—your impact truly means the world! 💙

Today at Bretton Woods Ski Area, we proudly shared the results of this year’s Lift Up Our Community initiative in support of our partner, New England Disabled Sports.

Hello everyone, I'm Celine McArthur, your Slopeside Storyteller.

Through our annual auction—featuring a retired Fabyan’s Express Triple Chair transformed into a one-of-a-kind art piece by local artist Emily Royal—we raised more than $2,000 in support of adaptive sports programs that change lives.

That impact translates directly into opportunity: 41 winter adaptive ski lessons or 80 summer adaptive lessons for individuals living with disabilities—each one creating access, independence, confidence, and joy on the mountain.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who bid, contributed, and continues to believe in the power of the mountain to bring people together—and to Emily Royal for bringing new life and meaning to the chair through her artwork.

You can see this amazing partnership in action in these Slopeside Spotlights:

We were honored to welcome Ian, 2025–2026 State President of the New Hampshire Society Children of the American Revolution, this past Saturday as he presented NEDS with a generous $5,000 donation 😊

Through their statewide project, “Swinging for Service,” their members are combining a love of sports with a commitment to giving back to support youth, veterans, and athletes with disabilities. 💪💚

We’re incredibly grateful to have been chosen as a beneficiary of their efforts. Their support will help continue to open doors for athletes of all abilities to access sport, build confidence, and be part of the NEDS community. ⛷️✨

Thank you, Ian and the NSCAR we’re excited to partner together and make an impact! 🙌

As the season comes to a close at NEDS, we’re proud to share the Veteran impact we made together 💙

This winter, we provided 168 lessons to 49 Veterans, creating opportunities to get outside, stay active, and build confidence on the slopes.

This work was made possible thanks to the support of Move United Sport.

At NEDS, it’s always about possibilities, not limitations.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this season so meaningful. Adaptive Sports and Arts - U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Proof that it’s never too late to hit the slopes...again! 💙⛷️

This student-athlete was once an adaptive ski instructor at a resort in Maine and reminded all of us that age is just a number. She already knew how to ski, she just needed a little confidence and support to ski with her family.

At NEDS, we believe opportunity doesn’t have an expiration date and moments like this are exactly why. 🙌

Two days, all heart 💪❄️

Our MS camp rocked it this week by pushing limits, building confidence, and having a whole lot of fun along the way.

Thanks to support from Hockey Fights MS, this opportunity was made possible. We’re so grateful to create moments like these! 💙

This past weekend was nothing short of magical ✨

We were proud to host another incredible Sports For Life Weekend, sponsored by the Katz Family in memory of Herb Katz. Because of their generosity, 2️⃣0️⃣ student-athletes experienced skiing for the very first time. An unforgettable weekend on snow.

The weekend included two nights at the Mountain Club on Loon, two full days on the slopes at Loon, and a special welcome banquet to kick things off. Moments like these are what it’s all about. 🙌

We are so grateful for donors like the Katz Family who make opportunities like this possible year after year. Thank you for helping us create experiences that truly change lives. 💙
