Do you have a heart for serving others?

I've been thinking about launching a "Meals of Compassion" meal train service with CHAOS Recovery, and I'd love to get your thoughts!

The idea is to create a service where caring volunteers can provide a few supportive meals to folks in our community during times of need that aren't just surgery or having a baby.

Imagine navigating a difficult mental health challenge, where even the simplest tasks, like preparing a nutritious meal, feel overwhelming...

This "Meals of Compassion" service would offer a tangible act of kindness and relief during these kinds of vulnerable moments.

As it says in Hebrews 13:16, "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."

This scripture reminds us of the power and importance of extending a helping hand to those in their vulnerable moments.

We believe the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few! What do you all think of this idea? Would you be interested in helping get a "Meals of Compassion" service off the ground? Your gift of time and compassion can make a profound difference.

Let me know in the comments or message me if this is something you'd be interested in supporting or volunteering for! Your feedback is so valuable as I explore this idea!!

Heavenly Father, we pray for your guidance and wisdom as we consider launching this "Meals of Compassion" service. We know the needs are great, and we ask that you stir the hearts of those who are meant to serve. Just as your Word reminds us that the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few, we pray you would lead willing and compassionate volunteers to this ministry. May their hands and hearts be an extension of your love, bringing comfort and sustenance to those in need. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Think about this for a minute...

Thoughts/emotions can lead to behavior AND behavior also can lead to thoughts/emotions. It's a cycle where one can play on the other.

So, negative thoughts can lead to negative changes in behavior and negative behavior can lead to negative changes in thoughts or vice versa...positive for positive.

For example: "I'm too tired to workout" can lead to choosing not to workout because of being too tired...BUT...not working out can lead to more thoughts, such as "I'm so useless, I can't even workout." Which can lead to behaviors of guilt or shame and more of not working out ...see the cycle??

Okay now let's go back to COVID lockdowns and the uptick in SUD and the aftermath that is being delt with today especially in mental health challenges and SUD.

Churches were closed and yet liquor stores were able to stay open....

People were essentially told Jesus can't help you with your problems but alcohol can. HOW is this NOT straight out of the enemy's handbook?!?! Even Proverbs 28:28a says, "When the wicked take charge, people go into hiding."

Simply changing our behavior (the lockdowns) changed our moods. Anxiety and depression doubled and where were we to turn to for help coping with these increased symptoms?

We were literally thrown into chaos and made to 1.) figure it out OURSELVES and 2.) if we couldn't, then drugs and alcohol can be the fix.

First off, with Jesus, there isn't any "figuring it out ourselves" and second Jesus is the only fix we need. I know some will argue that but I just don't agree. There are SO. MANY. THINGS. that I've have tried to do on my own and failed each time. As SOON as I turn that over to God, I see change.

One example is my crippling fear of death. I struggled with that for YEARS. I tried to fix it myself with therapy, CBT, medication, and self medicating with alcohol... absolutely nothing worked.

Yes, medication and CBT played a role in helping, these are tools. The CBT was more effective in other areas of my life and the medication only masked the issue. Then, when I came to Christ...about four months or so into my journey one day I realized, "Hey, I have not thought about death in awhile." Then the more I paid attention to that...the more I realized that God had just taken that fear away from me.

Anyway...all this to say...We NEED Jesus, y'all! That hole in your heart is God shaped and nothing else will fit there, no matter what or how hard you try. Substances will NOT fix the way you feel. Turning to substance use is a negative choice that will lead to negative behaviors....so why not try a positive choice...that can lead to positive behavior?

If we've "been there and done that" and are STILL waking up in the AM feeling like absolute crap then WHY are we choosing to continue to go back to that?? Proverbs 26:11 tells us, "As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness."

Maybe it's time to try something new?

Maybe it's time for Jesus?

Alt2Su is a peer support group that works to create space where it's safe to be uncomfortable, open, and honest. It allows participants to talk about suicidal thoughts, feelings, or experiences without fear of judgement or intervention, in a non-clinical environment.

Participants share their struggles and successes, provide support for one another, and strategize about alternatives to help each other best cope with difficult life circumstances. People are encouraged to come in both times of strength and challenge; you need not be in crisis to attend this group.

With Alternatives to Su***de, we can do just that. You can have a community of people around you who get it. Who understands the struggles and who chooses every day to continue to fight this battle to live another day.

With peer support we KNOW how it feels to struggle with depression and destructive thoughts, we can share what we have done for ourselves that has lessened the struggle.

👉 Maybe something that has worked for me, will help you too?

👉 Maybe something that helps you ... will help me?

👉 Maybe just knowing that you're not alone is enough to help?

👉 Maybe my light will illuminate your darkness and help you to see a better way?

👉 Maybe our lights together make a beacon for others to find their way out of the dark???

When we're alone it's a lot easier to allow our minds to be under attack. There's a better way, you DON'T have to do this ALONE!!
