It’s heavy out here. So many of us are caught in a rhythm of urgency, always more to do, never feeling like it’s enough. This isn’t a personal failing. It’s there by system design.

Let’s resist by inviting each other into joy, into breath, into moments that remind us why we’re still here. Joy is not a distraction; it’s a strategy.

Today is PTSD Screening Day, an initiative aimed at promoting mental health awareness and early intervention strategies. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of regular screenings for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among individuals who may have been exposed to traumatic events. Utilizing evidence-based assessment tools, such as screening questionnaires, can aid in the identification of potential symptoms and facilitate timely intervention.

If you suspect PTSD in yourself or a loved one, taking a moment to complete a screening inventory is a crucial first step. Acknowledging symptoms fosters awareness, vital for combatting this condition.

The Gottman's talked about "meta emotions" in one of their most recent Marriage Minute emails:

"Everyone carries an emotional history; a blueprint shaped by the emotional climate you grew up in.

Maybe you were raised in a home where emotions were welcomed and validated. Or maybe you were told to "toughen up," "stop crying," or that "feelings are a weakness."

These early experiences create what psychologists call meta-emotions: how we feel about our own feelings. Do you see sadness as natural and safe, or uncomfortable and unnecessary? Do you embrace vulnerability or try to avoid it?

When partners have meta-emotion mismatches, it can cause serious misunderstandings. One partner may want to talk through feelings openly, while the other shuts down, avoids, or jumps to fixing things—often unintentionally making the other feel unseen or dismissed.

Gottman Method reminds us that empathy must come before advice. You can't truly support your partner without first understanding and accepting their emotional world.

Want to bridge the gap? Practice the Art of Intimate Conversation.

Here are the steps:

-Put your feelings into words
-Ask open-ended questions
-Respond with empathy, not solutions
-Deepen the connection with compassion"

For many, Mother’s Day is filled with love, laughter, and celebration. But for others, it’s bittersweet—or even painful. Whether you're missing your mom, grieving a child, longing to be a mother or simply navigating a complex relationship, this day can stir up a lot of feelings.

It’s okay to feel joy and sorrow side by side. You can be deeply grateful for the people around you while also aching for those who aren’t. You can be present at brunch while quietly holding space for a mother or child who lives only in memory. You can love the people in your life fiercely and still long for someone who’s missing.

Some mothers live with invisible grief: a child lost, a dream deferred, a space at the table that no one else sees. And many adult children move through this day with an invisible weight of their own—missing a mother who has died or is no longer present in their life.

Whether this day brings celebration, grief, or something in between, know that your feelings are valid. You are not alone.

Honor what you need. Say their name. Take a break. Reach out. Remember. Celebrate. Cry. Laugh. Mother’s Day holds room for all of it. 💛🧡💜
