International Overdose Awareness Day
August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day. Anesthesiologists can all play a part in saving lives beyond our role in the perioperative arena, leveraging our expertise in recognizing an opioid overdose, reacting appropriately, and administering naloxone. Please explore the REVIVEme initiative resources on opioid overdose, and share it with your patients, friends, and family. ASA has received a generous grant from Hikma Pharmaceuticals to host an event in Philadelphia with a school or community-based organization to train volunteers, students, teachers, and staff to recognize, respond, and reverse opioid-related overdoses. They will also be provided with reversal kits and training materials to share with others in their community. Stay tuned for more details on that important event.

Applications to the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research’s (FAER) Spring 2024 Grant Cycle are open December 1, 2023, through February 15, 2024! Available grants include the Mentored Research Training Grant (two years, $250,000), Research in Education Grant (two years, $100,000), and Research Fellowship Grant (one year, $75,000). This cycle also features the APSF-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant (two years, $300,000), for which FAER will accept letter of intent submissions from December 1, 2023, through January 1, 2024.
