With the rapid increase in flu activity across Nebraska, it’s especially important to recognize common flu symptoms and take early steps if you’re not feeling well. Flu symptoms can vary from person to person but often include fever or chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches and fatigue. In some cases, particularly among children, stomach‑related symptoms can also occur.

If you’re experiencing flu‑like symptoms, prioritize rest, hydration and limiting contact with others to help reduce the spread. If symptoms feel severe, continue to worsen, or raise concern, a healthcare provider can help determine the right next step for care.

Since then, Brenda has reached amazing goals. She lowered her A1C and is no longer prediabetic.

"Eating better, losing weight and exercising helped me hike 10-15 miles through 5 national parks! Quite an achievement for me!"

If you have prediabetes or are at risk for diabetes, don’t wait — take action now! The Bryan Diabetes Prevention Program is covered by Medicare and other insurance plans.

Attend an info session on Wed., January 21 to learn more.

The flu has surged significantly across Nebraska, now placing our state in the ‘very high’ level nationally. Unfortunately, this concerning status has already caused one of our central Nebraska medical centers to require mandatory masking to help protect employees and patients.

We know there are many people getting sick in our communities. Now is the time to do what you can to help yourself and others.

✅ Get your flu shot – it’s not too late to still gain protection against severe outcomes
✅ Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer frequently
✅ Limit touching your face, which can unknowingly spread germs

Your efforts to help decrease the spread of flu will help protect our most vulnerable populations, like those 65 and older, children 2 and under, pregnant women and others with chronic health conditions.

Your liver works hard every day to keep your body healthy, but drinking too much alcohol over time can take a serious toll. Alcohol-related liver damage often happens gradually, and many people don’t realize what’s happening until symptoms become severe. The good news is that stopping or reducing alcohol use can slow, stop or even reverse some of this damage.

If you’re concerned about your own drinking or someone you love, support is available. Bryan Independence Center offers compassionate, confidential help for alcohol & substance use, including screenings, walk-in evaluations and counseling options. There is hope, healing and help available at Bryan Medical Center.
