Lumbar axial decompression traction is a non-surgical therapy designed to relieve back pain and sciatica by gently stretching the spine to reduce pressure on spinal structures. Here’s how it works:
1. Reduces Disc Pressure: Traction creates a negative pressure within the intervertebral discs, promoting retraction or repositioning of bulging or herniated discs. This alleviates compression on nerves, which is a common cause of sciatica (pain radiating down the leg) and localized back pain.
2. Improves Nutrient Flow: The decompression effect enhances blood flow and nutrient exchange to the discs, which lack a direct blood supply. This supports healing of damaged discs and surrounding tissues, reducing inflammation and pain.
3. Relieves Nerve Compression: By increasing the space between vertebrae, traction reduces pressure on pinched nerves (e.g., the sciatic nerve) caused by disc herniation, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease, alleviating radiating pain, numbness, or tingling.
4. Relaxes Muscles and Joints: The gentle stretching relaxes tight muscles and mobilizes stiff spinal joints, reducing muscle spasms and improving flexibility, which can contribute to pain relief.
5. Promotes Tissue Healing: Decompression may stimulate the body’s natural repair processes by improving circulation and reducing mechanical stress on spinal structures, aiding recovery from chronic or acute back conditions.
Mechanism in Practice
During therapy, a patient is secured to a specialized table that applies controlled traction force to the lumbar spine. The process is typically painless and tailored to the patient’s condition, with cycles of traction and relaxation to optimize decompression. Sessions last about 20–45 minutes, and multiple sessions may be needed for significant relief.

If you are experiencing back pain and would like to do a trial session of decompression traction reply 👍 and I’ll reach out to you. Drug and surgery free solutions are available.
