FAQ Series | Can we scatter cremated remains?
Yes — scattering cremated remains is an option many families choose, and it can be a very personal and meaningful way to honor a loved one.
If scattering is something you’re considering, it’s helpful to talk about those wishes ahead of time with the people who will be involved. Your funeral professional can also assist in planning a scattering ceremony that reflects your family’s preferences.
A scattering service can be:
• Formal or informal
• Public or private
• Simple or more ceremonial — whatever feels right to your family
It’s also important to be aware that some public locations may have specific rules or regulations regarding scattering. Your funeral director can help guide you through those details and ensure everything is handled respectfully and properly.
At Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, we’re here to help you create a tribute that feels meaningful, personal, and right for your loved one.
If you have questions or would like to talk through your options, we’re always here to help. 402-467-5200

FAQ Series | Is there financial help if I need it?
We understand that concerns about cost can add stress during an already difficult time. While every situation is different, there may be resources available to help ease the financial burden.
Some options to explore include:
• Checking with Social Security, Veterans Affairs, or state programs to see if the deceased qualifies for assistance
• Reviewing any life insurance policies, as some include coverage for funeral-related expenses
• Looking into local charities, nonprofit organizations, or churches that may offer support
• Talking with your funeral director about cremation options, which can be more affordable depending on your choices
At Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, our role is to help you understand your options and make decisions that feel right for your family — without pressure and with compassion.

FAQ Spotlight: “If I am cremated, can I be buried with my spouse even if they were in a casket?”
Absolutely — in many cases, yes.
Depending on the cemetery’s policies, cremated remains can often be placed:
✨ On top of your spouse’s casket, allowing you to share the same grave space
✨ Beside your spouse, using the space provided next to them
✨ Or in some cemeteries, multiple cremated remains may be placed in one grave
At Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, we know how important it is for families to stay together — in life, in memory, and in rest. We’re here to guide you through every option with clarity and compassion, ensuring your wishes are honored.

At Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, we take great pride in caring for our families, and will work tirelessly to provide you with a beautiful, lasting tribute to your loved one. In addition to the services we offer, you will receive an online memorial that you can share with family and friends. While honoring your loved one is our top priority, we also want to help you through this difficult time. We have a wide range of resources to support you not only today, but in the weeks and months to come.
Online Memorials
We can create a customized, online memorial for you to share with family and friends. The memorial includes the obituary and any photographs you wish to provide. It will serve as a place for visitors to post condolences, share memories, upload photos, and light candles in honor of your loved one.
Tribute Videos
We can produce a personal tribute video that can be played at the service and online. Simply provide us with the photographs you want to include and we will transform them into a video celebration of your treasured memories. DVDs or digital files of the video are also available.
Funeral Fund Donations
We realize the expense of a funeral can be a burden. We provide the option for friends and family to make monetary donations to help cover funeral costs. These gifts can be made easily and securely online through our website, and are paid directly to the funeral home on behalf of the donor.
Ordering Flowers
We make it easy for friends and family to send flowers to your home or service to honor your loved one. We have partnered with local florists to offer the convenience of ordering directly from the obituary page of our website. You can also use this feature to select the flowers you would like at the service. This is a secure way to choose beautiful arrangements from the privacy and comfort of your home.
Sharing Service Details
We reduce the stress of contacting those who need the details of the service for your loved one. We post the dates and times of the service as part of the online memorial on our website. You can then either share the memorial on your Facebook or Twitter page or copy the details from the site into an email or text. Both options give you the peace of mind that you have provided the necessary information to those who need it.
Daily Grief Support Emails
We offer one year of free daily grief support emails to the families we serve. It is important to us that we continue to comfort our families through the difficult days that the first year of grieving can bring.
