May is Nebraska’s See to Learn Month, bringing awareness to the link between vision and childhood learning.

To help catch vision problems early, Nebraska’s Doctors of Optometry offer free vision assessments for 3-year-old children.

Dave McBride, Program Director of the Nebraska Foundation for Children's Vision, provided a presentation to the Nebraska City Rotary Club on April 9.

He shared that there is an important link between vision and early childhood learning and provided the warning signs and indications of vision deficiencies. He also shared why comprehensive eye exams are so important for children before they enter grade school.

Yesterday, students from Shelton and Kenesaw elementary schools received free eye exams as part of the weeklong vision clinics offered in Nebraska communities in partnership with the Nebraska Foundation for Children's Vision and VSP Vision Care. A special thank you to Doctors of Optometry Mandy Johnson and Bill Kusek for providing the exams. Students in need of eyeglasses were able to pick out frames, and lenses were prepared onsite.

Thank you to Dr. Janet Fett and Dr. Lauren Dole for providing free vision exams to nearly 40 students in Hastings Public Schools. Thank you to Senator Dave Murman for attending our school vision clinic, and to VSP Vision Care for providing their mobile vision clinic and volunteers who managed check-in, did pre-tests for the students, helped students choose glasses, and made glasses in VSP's mobile vision clinic. This week our members are providing free vision exams to children at several schools in Nebraska. Yesterday we were pleased to partner with York Public Schools and provide exams for 57 students. Thank you to Drs. Faith Schneider, Amy Kadavy and Nancy Dob for providing the vision exams. Thank you to VSP Vision Care for providing the testing equipment and bus where glasses were made onsite and provided to students at the clinic. Thank you to Senator Jana Hughes for stopping by and learning about the school vision clinics.
