Together, we can honor those we have lost, celebrate resilience, and build a future rooted in compassion, connection, and hope. As we recognize Overdose Awareness Week, we asked members of our recovery community what this week means to them:
💬 Tanner: “Overdose Awareness Week reminds me that behind every statistic is a real person, a family, and a story. It’s about honoring lives lost, breaking stigma, and starting conversations that can save lives. Awareness means compassion, connection, and hope for recovery.”
💬 Neil: “What overdose awareness means to me is the hope that one day I won't have to announce the names of those we lose at the meetings I facilitate. In the 3 ½ years that I’ve been facilitating these meetings, I’ve had to announce the names of seven individuals we’ve lost. My hope is to never have to do that again.”
💬 Marci: “To me, overdose awareness means remembering the lives that have been lost and reflecting on the love they brought into this world. It’s also about standing with those still struggling, showing compassion instead of judgment, and reminding them they are not alone. For me, it’s about reducing the stigma that often surrounds substance use by listening, loving, and using my voice to spread understanding, healing, and support.”
💜 This week and every week, we choose to remember, to stand alongside those in recovery, and to move forward together in hope.
