To the Cycle-Breaker Mama — We See You

There are moments when you’re in the flow with your child—
The conversation is gentle,
The connection is deep,
The respect is mutual.

And you feel it…
This is the relationship you dreamed of creating.
You’re giving what you never received.
You’re living the healing.

But later, when the house is quiet,
You get teary.
Not from regret—
But from remembering.

Your inner child didn’t get this kind of love.
And now she watches you offer it to someone else.

It’s beautiful.
It’s sacred.
And yes, it’s tender and bittersweet.

Mama, if this is you, we get you.
We see you.
We are you.

Go on, cycle-breaker mama.
You’re not alone.
We’re right here—walking this path beside you.

In a world that moves too fast and demands so much…
It’s easy to get swept up in the stress of daily life—not to mention the weight of the really, really hard things.

But pause for a moment and ask yourself:
Who’s in your circle of support to help nurture you?

I’m Gena Foster, a nurse practitioner who believes deeply in the healing power of compassionate, somatic, nurturing touch. In my work, I combine trauma-informed care, intuitive body awareness, and gentle touch-based therapy—including elements of focusing and somatic psychotherapy—to guide you back into your body and into a grounded, emotionally whole state.

Because we were never meant to carry it all alone.

Research continues to show how vital touch is to human well-being. Babies cannot survive without it. And the truth is—neither can we.

As adults, many of us receive only limited nurturing touch. Sexual touch may exist in relationships, but nurturing touch—safe, healing, unconditional—can be painfully rare.

So I ask you gently:
When was the last time you were held?
When was the last time you felt truly held—without needing to perform, fix, or explain?

You are worthy of that kind of care.
Let’s reconnect you to it.

Tending to Acute Grief

Grief often feels like a fog—thick, slow, and disorienting. Like moving through molasses or watching the world in shades of gray. You may not be able to see the other side right now, and that’s okay.

During this time:
Lower your expectations—especially around productivity. This is not a time for pushing through. It’s a time for softening.

Rest often—frequent naps, long pauses, and unstructured time are healing.

Eat small meals at least three times a day, even if your appetite is low. Nourishment matters.

Spend time in nature—let the wind, trees, and sky hold you when words and people can’t.

Offer yourself grace—more than you think you need.

Be gentle with others too. Grief is a language we all speak differently.

Spend time with those who love you, and away from people who drain you.

Return to a modified normal routine - shortened work hours. as mentioned above, especially be gentle with yourself around expectations regarding productivity.

This season of acute grief will pass, but for now, go slowly.

Slowness is sacred.

Wholeness Through a Developmental Relational Lens:

The foundational principles that developmental relational movements have taught me through my NeuroAffective Touch training. Yielding, reaching, pushing, taking in, holding on to, and letting go of are not just physical developmental movements—they are soul postures as well. They are the building blocks of sacred trust, secure attachment, and being whole in the world.

Here is a daily prayer I wrote to embody this knowing:

Today, this day, with Spirit as my companion:

I will yield into the safety of support.
I will reach for nurturing that nourishes my cells and my soul.
I will push/lean my being toward all the goodness life has to give.
I will take in all that is supportive.
I will hold on to all that I need.
I will let go of all that I do not need.

Amen 🙏🏻
