Claire Ammon Genealogical Services

Claire Ammon Genealogical Services Genealogical research and consulting company By utilizing a myriad of online databases, Claire has tackled cases from all over the Country, not just locally.

Board Certified Genealogist Claire Ammon is highly skilled in the area of forensic genealogy and has performed research on hundreds of cases. She is very experienced at taking a family back and then forward in time, finding current contact details for people of interest and performing family interviews. Her skill at spotting connections which others often miss makes her a great choice for competitive cases, when time is of the essence. Claire currently works directly for probate attorneys, private companies and the Army to find missing relatives quickly. When the internet has been exhausted she calls on the assistance of town and county repositories, local libraries and other genealogists to perform onsite research. Several of her cases have had an international component, allowing her to establish contacts abroad. Claire is also very knowledgeable about how to perform family history research in Connecticut having lived and researched in the State for seven years.

In 1785, Corbett Edward White was born to an u***d mother, Hannah Bedortha. Same named individuals complicated this research, as did one family's use of an alias. Check out my article in the NGSQ to see how this research problem was resolved.

I work for a company that finds missing heirs and last year I did a webinar talking about my work. I left out "The Contingency Creature" slide because it's a contentious subject. What I will say is this:
1) Not all missing heir companies are created equally
2) Missing heir companies provide a check and balance to the estate administrator, even when an independent genealogist is hired by the estate.

HUGHESVILLE, Pa. -- After 75 years, 25-year-old Army Private James Trick has finally returned home. The soldier was laid to rest Saturday in his hometown of Hughesville. I'm not sure I'm ready to hang this beautiful portrait of my Nan (1934-2017), painted by my Grandpa (1931-2018), but since it's actually survived the trip to the US, thought I'd try it on the wall! I'm reminded of the love they shared for each other and their family.

As a full time professional genealogist I'm embarrassed to say that my own family has been thoroughly neglected. However, in an attempt to get ready for some worthwhile collaboration with my Mum this Christmas, I've recently delved a bit further. How could my great-great-great grandfather, John Maguire, affectionately known as "Gentleman Jim," a vellum binder from Camberwell, London, have ended up in the work house at 43 with dementia and died there in 1887? That doesn't sound very gentlemanly,....Oh no, I think I just opened Pandora's box!

As someone born in Britain with British parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, I thought it might be fun to finally take a DNA test to determine where exactly in England my DNA is from. The average Brit is apparently 37% British. Well, I had an identity crisis the day my results came in! On the plus side though, I'll be wearing green on March 17th!
