October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are showing our support by participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Holmes Lake Park this Sunday.
We also want to share a story of one of our very own employees, who is a breast cancer survivor, Jenny Oberle, RN.
“I was diagnosed one month before my 50th birthday. My mom’s three sisters all had breast cancer, but my mom never did. So that warranted a mammogram every six months for me since I was 25. My treatment consisted of a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction, followed by six rounds of chemotherapy. I’m 61 now so I am an 11 year survivor!! I have yearly checkups with my oncologist and yearly preventative MRI’s.
Advice I would give is making sure to do monthly self-breast exams, yearly mammograms, because early detection can make all the difference in the world with a better outcome!”
